An evening on the beach sets the scene for Varric to finally make up his mind about his relationship situation, and tell Rahne everything about it. Fortunately, Varric is good at salvaging social situations, and he decides to finally ask her something important.

Varric's attempts at being a not-terribly-secret Santa are foiled, but it doesn't matter much to him, as long as Rahne is happy with her gift.

Rahne spies Nick making a fool of himself during some independent training. An awkward conversation follows, but at least they enter an agreement to become training buddies.

Out for a nature walk, Varric interrupts Rahne's morning jog. She can't figure out how it ended up with them having tea and planning a scenic tour of the city, either.

Illyana suggests Rhane take flirting lessons from Professor Irvine after she develops a crush at the Masquerade. Irvine isn't sure how he earned this title, but he does his best to help.

Sharon comes back for the school year. Rahne is surprised by her roommate's sudden appearance. Cuddling and catching up.

Rahne comes to check in on Midnighter, who is an ass about it. What's new.

Rahne crashes into Illyana's room the next morning to whine about meeting Prince Charming.

Rahne and Phil meet one another again at the masquerade. He's happy to see her improving. On the other hand, she's seeing something entirely different.

A few days after, with John healed and things more settled down, John and Rahne have another 'talk.' And history's most casual stoning.

John drags himself back to the others after his fight, only to find they've finished theirs. Once John's capable of getting on his feet again, they resolve to return home.

Descending into tunnels deep below the streets of New York City, John, Rahne, and Midnighter are ambushed by one familiar mutant Marauder, and two new ones. Before the fight can truly break out, John breaks away to go deal with Creed on his own.

( I'm going after Creed. Deal with these losers. )

Hunkering down where John's been hiding, John, Midnighter and Rahne fill each other in on the past. They're interrupted by more Marauders, and two of them have surprising mutant powers. A brawl ensues, and they pursue a fleeing Marauder.

Midnighter realizes that John's been away from the school for too long. When Rahne comes for their run, he enlists her help in tracking down the wayward feral. What they find is John's past catching up with him.

Illyana goes over to recruit her neighbor for party planning, and to everyone's surprise it works out rather well.
