German shepherd!Jack rounds up a recalcitrant tiger!Daniel and deposits him with Ianto for safekeeping.

On the one hand, Daniel was glad that Ianto apparently hadn't closed the door behind him. On the other, he really wasn't sure he wanted to go out there. He padded to the door and stuck his nose - muzzle, really - out. That was right. Muzzle. He'd been doing some homework on Ianto's bed and then...he wasn't really sure what then. He just knew that one minute he was sitting on the bed and the next, he was much smaller and the laptop didn't fit on his lap anymore. He didn't have a lap anymore. He wasn't sure exactly what he was, but he wasn't human and his paws looked like a larger version of Sharon's.

So he knew he should go out there and let someone know what was going on, but at the same time, the entire place would be knew. He could barely maneuver on all four legs. How was he supposed to figure out anything else?

Jack was already in the hall, trying to do a mental head count of which rooms were already accounted for and which rooms he and Steve should go into next. It was a little harder than normal, as the hallway looked really different from his current height, and he was still learning to cope with the new senses that came with his German shepherd body (especially the overwhelming sense of smell). But Steve had gone to drop off their latest student-turned-animal discovery in the rec room, so he had a few minutes to contemplate.

An advantage of being at this height, however, was that the muzzle poking through one of the doors was right at his eye level. Guess he'd found their next target. His ears perked forward, and he trotted down the hall to sniff curiously at the muzzle.

...he'd just sniffed a student. Wow. Alright then. He made a sound that wasn't supposed to sound like a whine but totally did because he was currently a puppy. Hopefully it had sounded something like the hello I'm here are you okay that he was aiming for.

Except Daniel was Daniel and nearly tripped over himself in his haste to move back. He definitely wasn't a fan of four legs. Two was hard enough at the best of times. He really hadn't expected to see another animal, unless...this wasn't Ianto, was it? How was he even supposed to ask?

Jack nosed the door open a bit more. Was that...? Yup, kid was a tiger. A tiny, tiny little tiger, that seemed to have fallen over itself. Jack looked up at the room number, and realized that this was the room next to Steve's. Ianto lived here, with the short kid who always had his nose in books. Daniel, that was it.

Jack raised one puppy-eyebrow at the tiger, not sure how to communicate either. He put his paw forward, the one that had his wrist strap device strapped loosely to it. Steve had taped into a smaller ring, just to get it to stay on his - ugh - leg, but it was still loose. Hopefully Daniel would recognize it anyway.

As the dog stepped into the room, Daniel noticed the wrist thing hooked onto the dog's leg. He frowned, at least attempted to frown. He wasn't sure what kind of expression he had on his face. But he turned and leaped onto his bed. For as much time as he usually spent on Ianto's reading, he didn't want to confuse Jack with who he was.

Tilting his head curiously, Jack trotted over to the edge of the bed. What was the younger boy doing up there?

Daniel sat and waited, hoping the dog would give him some kind of response to let him know that he understood what Daniel was trying to say. He was Daniel Jackson, not Ianto Jones. Of course it was possible that Jack had already seen Ianto somewhere and knew that, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

For his part, Jack could tell that Daniel was trying to communicate something, but apparently his tiger translating skills weren't polished just yet. After tilting his head the other way (the flopping of his ears tipped him off to what he was doing, and he righted himself immediately - he was not a dog, tyvm), Jack gave a little bark and looked back over at the door, then back up at the tiger cub. They really should get Daniel over to the rec room.

Hopefully Jack knew who he was now, but that didn't answer Daniel's next question. Was he trying to get Daniel to come with him? He stood up again, turned a few times in a circle, and collapsed onto the bed. He didn't want to leave until Ianto was here. He wasn't sure what was out there, but out there was very scary, especially when all of it was going to be a lot taller than he remembered.

Frowning (as best he could with his current features), Jack gave a small bark. He needed Daniel on his feet.

Daniel made a noise that sounded like some weird combination of a baby crying and a high-pitched growl and continued to stay where he was.

Jack-the-puppy gave the cub a very unimpressed looked, then stood up by placing his front paws on the bed. Quit messing around.

Daniel stood up, turned a few times in a circle, and then very deliberately collapsed back on the bed, resting his face between his paws.

Well that wasn't going to work. Jack puppy-frowned, then decided enough was enough. Pushing himself up to be a little taller, he grabbed Daniel by the scruff of the neck. With his teeth. Very, very carefully.

On the bright side, it seemed to work, and he tugged the cub gently off the bed (almost dropping him because he wasn't fully prepared for the size and weight - he was only a pup himself [dammit], and had to keep his nose in the air to keep Daniel from dragging.

Daniel's feet lifted instinctively and he made another growling sound. He wanted to stay for Ianto. But clearly Jack wasn't taking no for an answer. He closed his eyes and went limp. Maybe he could go find Ianto once Jack had let him down and gone off to find someone else.

Well, at least Daniel was cooperating. Neck still craned at a mildly ridiculous angle, and trying not to think about what sort of comments this might garner, Jack started walking them toward the rec room.

...but it was hard work. Plus, his own paws were oversized, and he almost tripped over them a couple of times. Still, he was determined, and a minute later he was waddling walking into the rec room with the cub. He glanced around the (extremely chaotic) room; Sirius was already busy, talking to something with wings, Steve didn't seem to be around, but--

Ah, even better. He trotted up to Ianto and deposited the limp bundle of fur at his feet. Then started trying to get the cat hair off his tongue.

It took Daniel a minute to realize where he'd been placed and, when he did, he scurried back behind Ianto's legs, ducking his head between then and doing that growling again as if to say 'Why didn't you say you were bringing me here in the first place?'

Ianto blinked down at the puppy, then leaned forwards to look at the tiger cub between his ankles. "Hmm." Glancing back at the German shepherd he noticed the wrist strap and grinned. "Finding your inner dog, are you, Jack? I'd say we already knew you were one, but that seems too easy."

Jack looked up at Ianto, rumbling a little unhappy growl. He was not in the mood. Looking back at the tiger cub, Jack gave him a look that was completely unimpressed. Woofing toward the cub, Jack just looked up at Ianto to communicate And now he's your problem.

Then he stood and headed out of the room again. Hopefully the next stranded student wouldn't be so much trouble...

Daniel bit Ianto's pant leg and made another one of those growling sounds. It wasn't that he minded Ianto teasing Jack, exactly, it was more that it caused weird feelings in him. Feelings he didn't really like. So for the moment, he wanted Ianto's attention focused on him.

Ianto couldn't help but laugh at Jack's exit - he really couldn't take him seriously like this. But the tiger quickly grabbed his attention. Bending at the waist, Ianto softly ran his fingers over the cub's forehead. "I leave you alone for five minutes," he murmured. He had known exactly who it was at the first growl. "Hello, Daniel. You're having quite the morning, aren't you?"

Daniel butted his head against Ianto's fingers, wanting more of the touch. Now he could understand why Sharon liked being petted so much. He wondered whether he could get Ianto to read to him like he sometimes read to them when Sharon was over to cuddle. The only downside to this if he could was that he probably couldn't drink coffee.

Once he was certain Daniel's teeth had cleared his jeans, Ianto pivoted so he could crouch down in front of Daniel. And then he stared. "Christ, you're a tiger." Breath caught in his throat in awe, he slowly reached out again to stroke his roommate's forehead.

Daniel snorted a little because wasn't that obvious by now? But then he jumped up on Ianto's thighs and rubbed his...muzzle against Ianto's cheek. Yes. He was a tiger. And Ianto was still human. At least there was some consistency in Daniel's life.

Ianto laughed at Daniel's behavior; he must be feeling some animal instincts. "That's certainly better than the biting." Sobering slightly, he asked, "Are you feeling alright? You must have had quite the shock. Oh, the headmasters have explained that this all was a powers mishap, I'm sure you put that together. But they think it will be temporary." Ianto ran a soothing palm down the length of Daniel's spine.

Daniel turned his head to look at where Jack had left from...and sneezed. Of all the things he'd been worried about since turning into this cat thing, the one thing he'd been glad about was that he wouldn't have to deal with allergies. Apparently he was mistaken. He hopped off Ianto and then curled up by his legs. Maybe being a cat wouldn't be too fun. Unless he ran into Sharon.

Ianto gaped at Daniel for a moment, then directed his gaze skyward. He absolutely could not handle how cute that was. "Right, then." He braced his hands on his knees. Moving on. "D'you want to spend some time in here with the others? Or I can take you up to our room if you'd prefer to nap in peace." Peace might be an exaggeration, though, as Ianto couldn't seem to go more than a minute without running his fingers through Daniel's ridiculously fluffy fur. "One meow for room, ignore me utterly if here is fine."

Meow? Daniel didn't meow and he proved it by giving Ianto another one of those tiny growl-like noises and then staring at him. He ruined the effect, though, because he closed his eyes and leaned in against Ianto's hand. It didn't matter to him whether they stayed or went back to the room, but he was staying with Ianto wherever he went.

Ianto huffed but couldn't stop grinning. It was an adorable sound. "Neither of the above is not helpful, actually. How about..." he glanced around, "we stay down here for a while, see if we can't find Sharon. I'm sure she'd love to show you the ropes of being a cat. And if you get tired or bored, we can head back to the room and I'll read whatever you'd like."

Daniel hopped off of Ianto's lap and started bounding in a direction that wasn't back in the dorms in an attempt to go find Sharon. Of course, he only managed a handful of steps before he stumbled over himself. Even if he had cat instincts, he'd never been the most coordinated of people.

Laughing, Ianto levered himself up to his feet a took two steps to catch up with his excitable roommate. "How about I give you a hand until Sharon can give you proper training," he said even as he leaned down to scoop Daniel up and tuck him against his chest.

Daniel made another growling noise and opened his mouth and gently placed his teeth on Ianto's neck as a rebuke. He didn't even puncture anything. He didn't need training. Just...practice. But then he relaxed in Ianto's arms. If there was anything he could say about this situation, it was that he knew Ianto would keep him safe.

Ianto relaxed from the automatic tension of 'there is a tiger biting my neck,' and rubbed his chin against the top of Daniel's head in a silent apology for the insult. He adjusted his hold to be more secure and started picking his way around the animals, looking for a familiar flash of purple. After all, be it emotionally or physically, he never wanted to hurt Daniel.
