Peter spends some time with Kitty...in sugar glider form. When he shifts back, they redefine their relationship.
Being an animal was weird, and Peter still wasn’t used to it. His senses were through the roof, especially in the dark, and his view of the world was completely different, something as simple as a foot stool looked like a mountainous task. He didn’t know how Sharon did it. Then again, a cat and one hundred and forty grams of marsupial were completely different things. Why couldn’t he at least have been a kangaroo or something?
Letting out a sigh, or whatever equated to a sigh for a sugar glider, Peter crawled out of the pocket of Kitty’s hoodie and climbed up onto her shoulder. He scurried over, and rested a hand...paw...thing on her neck.
Kitty let out a very small eep at the tiny paw on her neck, because oh my gosh that was never going to stop being weird, and turned to peer down at the tiny marsupial that her boy, date, uh, something? had become.
"You'd think by now I'd be used to small animals crawling on me," she pointed out to him as she reached up to lift him off of her shoulder to rest in both palms in front of her face. "Uh. Hi," she smiled.
Peter lifted his paw in a wave and squeaked. He was relieved that communication barrier was one-sided and he at least could understand what was being said to him even if no one knew what he was saying in return. This would have been a whole lot messier otherwise, and not just for him, but for everyone involved.
"This is weird, right?" Kitty asked him. "I mean. Yeah. Weird. But can I just say that I am really glad you are not a spider? Because that would have been way weirder. And harder to transport. And kind of creepy. I mean, I'm dating Spiderman, you'd think I'd be okay with spiders but they kind of creep me out - please don't get offended or anything, I totally support your web habits!"
If Peter could grin he would have right then. She was so cute. “Who could blame you? I mean, spiders,” he joked but it came in squeaks and chirps. “Yeah, though--This is weird. I hope we change back soon.” Whatever novelty there had been in being an animal, it had worn off awhile ago.
"See, right there, I'm just going to pretend you're agreeing with me. Smile and nod, Pryde. Smile and nod." She reached up and ran the tip of one finger over his head. "Sooo. Wanna go hang out in my room until this whole mess calms down?"
Peter bobbed his head in the best approximation of a nod that he could do. Then, putting on his paws on either side of Kitty’s chin, he stood up on his hind legs, and gave her a kiss. Or, well, he put his muzzle against her mouth anyway.
If Kitty had been a cartoon character, her eyes probably would have gone to the size of saucers, hearts shining tearily inside. It was just. So. Adorable. She gave him another tiny little kiss, then cupped him in her hands as she started back down the hall, attempting to get control of herself before she started giggling, or crying, or both. "So. Never gonna forget that kiss. Way to be memorable, Peter Parker."
Peter was really regretting not being able to smile. He squeaked instead, then turned around in Kitty’s hand, poking his head out from between her fingers to watch where they were going. The world looked really different from way up here. And this was coming from a guy who spent his afternoon swinging from skyscrapers.
Once in her room, Kitty curled up on her bed and bundled up a hoodie in her lap to give Peter a little nest to lay in. She definitely was not going to think about his proximity to her lower regions at all! "I really wish I could talk to you," she sighed. "What about music? Would it be too rough on your ears?"
Sitting in the hoodie nest, Peter looked up at Kitty. He looked left, then right, in as much as a shake of his head as he could manage--Music sounded good. He didn’t think it would hurt his ears. He put his hands on the edge of the hoodie-nest and squeaked up at Kitty.
Kitty grinned and reached for her laptop, dragging it close to start her zen homework playlist. With her other hand, she held out one finger and rubbed his head gently. "They think that this is going to be over soon. But I bet it's pretty cool being in another body, you know, just for a short time."
Peter’s eyes went half-lidded in happy enjoyment at the head rubs. It was cool in a way, he had to agree. Mostly weird, but cool too. He caught Kitty’s finger between his paws and gave it a little nuzzle.
She attempted to keep her squeak under wraps, but it was hard. That kind of thing was really cute, especially coming from Peter, who was usually kind of shy in the affection department. The nuzzling and kisses was definitely making her heart beat faster, even if he was a sugar glider at the time. "Oh my gosh you are the cutest thing in the world."
If Peter could blush, he would have. Instead, he curled up on her lap in the hoodie nest to to listen to the music. He could see why people left the radio on for their pets when they went out; it was relaxing. He started to snuggle in more, only to suddenly find himself human again (Oh, God, thank God, he was clothed), sitting on Kitty’s and looking her right in the eye. “Um. Hi.”
From zero to sixty, Kitty turned red, sucking a breath as she leaned back a bit, her hands fumbling to find a place to settle that wasn't entirely inappropriate. She finally managed to lay one on his shoulder and another on his thigh. "Oh. Um. Wow. Hi. Er. Yay? Welcome back," she gasped, before starting to laugh.
“Uh, thanks. Good to be back,” Peter replied with a chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck. “Good to not be tiny and covered in fur.” He suddenly realized how they were sitting and flushed. “Um. Sorry about your lap.”
"You know, I'm just really glad right now that you have clothes on," Kitty pointed out wryly.
“I thought the same thing!” Peter exclaimed, and then immediately regretted it. “I mean, uh, I don’t mean that it--Not that I don’t... Um. I’m moving now.” He got off Kitty’s lap to sit down across from her on the bed.
Kitty reached out for his arm, tugging him back closer, a small blushing grin on her lips. "Heyyy, I didn't say you should."
Blushing, but grinning, Peter moved back in closer. “So, what do I owe you? What do you usually charge for pet-sitting?” he joked.
She grinned wider. "I'm pretty sure that just counted as hanging out with my-" and suddenly she paused. Because...yeah. They hadn't ever actually put a name to...whatever this was. "-you know," she finished lamely.
Peter’s head ducked and he looked at Kitty with a nervous, hesitant smile. “Boyfriend?” he supplied hopefully.
Relief flooded through her. She stared at that hopeful smile, then broke into her own, sighing and turning to flop onto her back, her head in his lap. "Yes. That."
Peter flailed internally. Ahh! Boyfriend! He grinned and bent over to give Kitty a kiss. Sitting back up, he tucked hair behind her ear, and said, “So, there’s no going rate for my boyfriend was a teenage marsupial?”
Kitty was pretty sure she still had her butt planted to the bed, but it certainly felt like she was floating. She grinned up at him, eyes twinkling. "Well, if there is, I think you should get on that and pay up. For the record, I take chocolate, Comixology credit, and kisses as forms of payment."
The grin was infectious and Peter’s own grew bigger at the sight of it. He was pretty sure he looked like an idiot right about now, but eh, oh well. “Well, I don’t have chocolate or Comixology credit right now, sooo...”
With a broad grin, Kitty just hooked the front of his shirt and pulled him closer, leaning up to meet him, her lips nudging softly against his. She had a boyfriend!!
Smiling, Peter let Kitty pull him in. His lips parted against hers and he leaned closer, hand cupping her cheek.
When they pulled away, she was slightly flushed and laughing softly against his cheek. "You know, I think I like you better as a human."
