Lu and Piotr bond after band practice.

It had been pretty obvious that Piotr was new to the drums when he started out with the rest of the band. There'd been plenty of mistakes and slow starts. Piotr might be many things. naturally gifted at music was not one of them. But he'd made plenty of progress, and was definitely enjoying himself.

Which explained why he was always so careful to make sure all the different sticks and rakes and bits were put away carefully after practice. That meant he was often the last one to leave, but that was fine. There was a symmetry to being the one sitting up the back on stage and being the last one to leave

Practice meant he was also getting quicker at packing up, so this time there was actually still someone in the practice room. Piotr hadn't actually had an opportunity to be alone in a room with Lu up to this point. And with plenty of extroverts around, it was so easy to always just be part of the crowd. Even when he loomed above it. Normally, being around someone he didn't really know would make Piotr awkward (let's be honest, he still was). But a bandmate wasn't a stranger, and that really helped. So the smile he shot her when he realised she was still there was more genuine and less reserved than usual. "That was a good practice." he offered by way of an icebreaker.

Lu looked up from where she was putting away her violin, a little surprised to be addressed, mostly because she still had the song playing in her mind and wondering if it wouldn't work better if she shifted the fingering a little. "It w-was," she stammered, smiling crookedly. "I th-think it's really starting to c-come together, huh?"

A crooked smile was a pretty good way to respond to Piotr any time. That way they were both smiling crookedly. "Yes. Very well. I did not expect a violin. But it is good." Okay, that was awkwardly phrased, and probably just skirted past Piotr having a big boot in his mouth. But it seemed genuine enough. Just, you know, phrased with typical Piotr eloquence.

Lu laughed. "Honestly? I d-didn't expect them to w-want a violin, either." She shrugged lightly. "If they ch-change their minds, I'm okay with that. Jay and Irvine kind of t-talked me into this. But I said I'd try."

"No, no. You must stay!" Piotr shook his head, disagreeing emphatically. "It would not be fair if you left the band. You know your instrument, you play it very well. I am still learning. If someone must leave, then the good musicians must stay. And a band should have a special sound, correct?"

"I guess? I'm just not sure that the special sound should really involve me," she observed. "Besides, you're doing really well - it just takes practice."

"Eh, I have a lot to learn." Piotr replied with a shrug. At this point even he could see that this was going to end in an unproductive modesty-off. The thought made him grin self-consciously, but it did pull him further out of his reserve. "If the band did not want us, they would say. So we can both feel safe, no?"

"I guess?" Lu grinned back just a little. "I know they w-wanted me. I'm not exactly sure I wanted to, but...it's hard to say no to Jay?"

"I spoke to Cal when I wanted to join. He is also very good at making you say yes." Piotr agreed solemnly. "I think it is too late to get off the ride." He paused there, thinking. His use of idiom was getting better, but he was still unsure. "That is the saying, yes?"

Lu laughed. "Off the rollercoaster, I think? But off the ride works too." She smiled crookedly and shrugged. "I promised to try. I'm not exactly good in front of people when it's just me, and the rest of me doesn't play. So...we'll see?" She closed her case and got to her feet.

Piotr rose up along with her, apparently intending to walk along with Lu for a little way. "Oh your different copies are different like that?" He'd assumed they were identical, not having had much to do with them before. "If you do not like too much attention, you can stand at the back with me. I also have stage fright. It is good that the others draw more notice."

"It is good. M-maybe everyone will be so busy looking at Jay's wings that they won't notice us?" She doubted it, personally - Piotr sort of stood out - but if he had stage fright, she was happy to go along with it. "But yes, we're...not much alike, really?" She smiled a little and shrugged. Explaining it was getting easier as time passed. "The me with the purple eyes likes to be the c-center of attention. Me, not so much. "

"You are the same person but you are different?" That was a confusing concept for Piotr. At least this time he was pretty sure that the idea itself was causing the confusion and not his lack of English! "But you like playing the music? When you are not being watched?"

"Love to," Lu admitted, having nodded her agreement to his initial question. "Just not in front of people. What about you? Do you like playing drums?"

Apparently that was what Piotr had wanted to hear, since the big lad brightened considerably. "Yes. It is fun." The way he said it made it sound like Piotr hadn't been entirely surenit would be. "I am scared on the stage, but it is a good way to meet people. I have not been good at that in this school."

"Why not?" Lu asked. She smiled sheepishly. "I'm sorry, I probably shouldn't ask, huh? Most people here have all been pretty nice, though. A lot better than I expected? Have you run into problems?"

"No big problems." That wasn't entirely true, but Piotr wasn't feeling up to unpacking the issues with his sister right now. "I am not good at making friends. This place is very different from home."

"You're from Russia, right? That would be a lot different, I'd think." She shrugged her shoulders. "I'm not the best at making friends, either. It gets confusing for people, y'know? The guys in the band have been really good about it, though." She grinned a little as they continued down the hall towards the dorms. "Or maybe it's just because I got the other two of me to stop flirting with them."

At any rate, she figured it couldn't have hurt. Maybe she'd tell the rest of her to just stay away from Piotr altogether. If he was nervous talking to her, she didn't even want to think about how he's react to Sis.
