Backdated to Sept 26. Sirius finally gets to properly meet Brian's girl.

After taking himself for a walk in pup form, a more relaxed Sirius was heading for the communal kitchen in search of drink and food. Nothing de-stressed and burnt off extra energy quite like exploring the house and grounds as Padfoot, it just hit an itch that nothing legal had yet scratched quite as well.

Now in that happier mood, his mind was firmly on something hot and preferably caffeinated and raiding the Brits goodies cupboard he'd help to comendeer, filling it with treats for all the other UK expats whenever work meant he had to take a trip home. Maybe he'd have marmite on toast or a turkey mustard sandwich with proper Colmans English mustard. Or go properly wild with a pack of fruit pastilles and some Brannigans crisps.

Humming happily, he let himself into the kitchen.

Not surprisingly, given the large population living at the school, someone else had had a similar idea.

Looking up from where she'd parked herself in front of the stove, Lil gave a smile to the other mutant before removing the lid to the pot she was working with and beginning to fish out hard boiled eggs with her bare hands. "Heya," she greeted with smile. "Gimme a coupla minutes and I'll be outta your way."

"No need, no need," Sirius assured her quickly as he headed for the cupboard. "Besides I'm good at sharing."

"Better than some in this school, at least, I'm sure" she snorted, still collecting the eggs from the recently boiled water. "But if you're sure, I ain't gonna rush."

"Cool, you know we didn't get a chance to meet before properly but I'm Sirius." Just to get formalities out of the way. After all he had been curious to meet Brian's girl for a while now. If she was indeed Brian's girl, after all Braddock wasn't the easiest to get to open up.

"Lil," came the reply with a pleasant grin. Of course, he probably knew her name, given her teaching position but that was no reason to be rude and not remind him of it.

"Pleasure," He said with genuine warmth as he set himself to making coffee. "So I'm guessing with the hands in boiled water thing your mutation has something about withstanding heat? And/or you're a total badass."

"Bio-aura," she chuckled the explanation. "I got a force-field thingy around me that makes me invulnerable and strong but I'll take 'badass,' too."

"Sounds good to me, pretty amazing power actually. Come in handy when you were off superhero-ing?" He wasn't sure if he should mention it or not, only one way to find out.

Lil couldn't help but wince at the memory of her time with Alpha Flight. "Yeah, it did. Works pretty good here, too, though. You know, when I'm letting students use me as a punching bag during class," she added.

"Seriously? Wow, gotta be unique form of stress release there!" He chuckled, hopping to sit on the counter with a bag of crisps.

She chuckled again. "I got other ones I like lots better, trust me. Teaching's morea being a glutton for punishment or something. But someone's gotta help Juddsie out and I wanted to stay in the States so..." One shoulder lifted and fell in an easy shrug as she finished gathering the eggs onto her plate.

"I have respect for anyone who attempts teaching, can't be easy with this rabble," He gestures vaguely at the school around them. "I don't claim to be the easiest of students myself."

This time, she let out a full blown laugh. "Oh, sweetie, trust me: anything I get thrown at me is full blown karma. I gave most of the teachers, here and at my old schools, hell. When I bothered showing up for class, that is."

"A bad girl, eh? Hope that means you're teaching my darling Brian to loosen up a little?" It was asked with pure affection, Sirius adored Brian. Grumpiness and all. He cared, in his funny way, and that was rare.

"Reformed bad girl," Lil insisted with another smirk, carrying her plate over to empty counter space so she could start peeling her eggs. "But yeah, Bri's come around a bit. We used to go into the woods to drink and talk about our powers and stuff; that's how we became friends. I wouldn't let him do his whole high society mask thing. Still don't." At least, not without it being part of the games they liked to play when the doors were locked and clothes were off.

The thought made her smile but with a little shake of her head, she pushed it aside. "'Course, there's only so much a girl can do with the poster boy for repressed British scientists."

"True but that's why we like him right? Wouldn't be him without a little stuffiness." Sirius grinned and shoved a handful of crisps in his mouth.

"It's one of the reasons, yeah," Lil agreed with another grin. "I didn't realize you and he were close."

"Weeeeeell, I wouldn't say close in a traditional way. But there is affection, however disguised on his end." Sirius told her, still grinning. "Known him for years, posh English boys and all that."

"It kinda amazes me how many people here knew each other before they got powers." Mostly among the richer kids.

"Just well connected, I suppose." It was probably more than that but, yeah, interesting.

Lil nodded as she tossed the shells in the waste bin. "Well, whatever it is, you knew Brian before, right? You got any dirt on him?" she asked with a twinkle in her eye.

"I wish, that boy is the opposite of oversharing. Undersharing? Far too straight laced, I do hope you're seeing to that?" He shot her wicked grin right back.

One eyebrow arched a bit higher before she merely took one of the hard-boiled eggs and bit into it. Brian would kill her if she started talking about their sex life with Sirius - for multiple reasons, Lil was sure.

"Oh good, he could stand to relax a little!" Sirius grinned, no he hadn't expected details but he was taking her silence as a very firm yes.

"When I can get him out of the lab and back to our room, I can promise he relaxes plenty. But that's all I'm gonna say."

"Excellent news to hear he actually leaves the lab, I have wondered sometimes if he didn't sleep there." He admitted as he finished up his crisps. "All moved in, huh? Brian has been keeping secrets from me! I would take it personally but, well, Brian."

She shook her head a bit. "I can promise you he wasn't keeping secrets. Neither of us are. It's just something that happened when I moved back from Canada and it's not like these things get published in school newspapers."

"Maybe we need a school paper to keep up which such things, hmmm?" Sirius suggested.
"Oh god, no," Lil laughed, hand under her mouth to keep any egg from falling out. "I'm in the rags enough. I don't need a school gossip column spreading stuff that might actually be true around here any more than it already is."

He was laughing too as he agreed "True, maybe it would be more harm than good. Suppose I've gotten a bit desensitised to the tabloids to some extent." Not true at all but just because Brian would know it was a lie didn't mean Sirius had to tell his girlfriend the truth.

Her nose wrinkled. "You'll have to teach me that trick, then, 'cause I am shit dealing with it all." Fuck, she was even thinking about breaking down and having a professional talk with Lydia.
"It's different for everyone but if I can help, I will." Now that was completely true.

"Appreciate it." Another smile lead to another egg disappearing. "I can use all the help I can get," Lil managed between bites.

"No problem, life in the spotlight. Sometimes I can't remember why I picked it." He told her with a small shrug.

She knew why she'd picked it: Brian, Alpha Flight - but that didn't mean she liked it. "Yeah, well, you ever need help fitting in with the blue collar crowd, let me know and I'll return the favor."

"What talking like a 'guttersnipe' ain't doing it enough? Trust me darlin', I have no troubles there. But try getting Bri to fit in, that's where you'll get your giggles." Sirius told her mischievously

Her brow drew at the word 'guttersnipe' but didn't comment on it. "Bri fit's in well enough. I mean, as much as teachers can now." It was weird being on the other side of that divide. God, how two years had changed things.

"I wasn't meaning any insults, just that with an upbringing as Brian's and Fettes education, fitting in with Blue collar crowds doesn't always work. Sometimes, not always. And he is terribly hard to relax, though that's in any crowd." From his position on the counter he flicked the kettle on.

Lil nodded her agreement. "Yeah, but like I said, I've gotten him to relax some." The smile curled at the edge of her lips again. "And no insult taken. Promise."

"It has been a while since I last pestered ol' Bri, maybe I need to investigate the new and relaxed model?"

"Just don't tell him I sent you," she laughed. "I don't wanna get in trouble if you pester him too much."

"Oh, believe me Brian knows who to blame when I'm pestering him too much." Sirius chuckled back. "You don't seem to have minded so far and you strike me as a girl who'll be very clear when she's tired of someone's company."

"I'm a better people person than Bri," Lil tossed off with a saucy wink. "And I got a higher tolerance for bullshit and troublemakers." When harmless, that was. If someone was pushing her buttons, then the giantess had little patience and a quick temper.

"All very good things to know,"

Lil returned the grin as she tidied up, putting away the kitchenware she'd used. "You're totally free to pester me whenever. 'Cept in class. Then I gotta be responsible and teacher-y."

"And I have a reputation to uphold as a charming troublemaker, so I hope you understand it's nothing personal. Though I mucj rather go for teachers than our lovely TAs." He preferred the lovable rogue role, he was not out to tear down new(ish) student teachers. That just wasn't cool.

Her eyes narrowed in faux sternness. "Juddsie don't put up for it, either. He may be short but he's even more of a pain in the ass than me. Just be careful."

"This is true, he strikes me a rather angry man at times. Takes a certain type to teach PE, I suppose." Sirius nodded thoughtfully, "Still, I've been here a year or there abouts and we ain't fallen out yet!"

"Keep it that way, trust me." Her superior barely came up to her hip, but that didn't mean Lil was dumb enough to get on his bad side.

He saluted with a smile "I'll take that into advisement."

"Good." Lil jerked her head toward the hallway. "I gotta get running. Come find me in the gym you never need any PE help or wanna tell me alla Bri's deep dark secrets you've heard through the grapevine."

Sirius laughed at that "Oh you can count on it, darling. And if you ever see a dog on the running machine, well, what can I say? Daft things amuse me."

She snorted, the image definitely a funny one. "You got it. See you around, Sirius."
