Illyana and Cal get ready for their TP trip to Spain.
"What am I forgetting?" Illyana asked Cal, eyeing the backpack she'd opened and closed a half dozen times in the past few minutes. There was something, she was sure of it. She couldn't figure out what, though. Or, possibly, she was just excited. And nervous. It wasn't as if she popped off to Spain for three days on a regular basis, let alone spent it sleeping on the couch of someone she'd never met.
No. She didn't do nervous. Obviously, she was just forgetting something.
"Toothbrush? Towel? Girl stuff?" Cal tried, but it wasn't as if he knew what she had packed, or not. His own backpack was ready, and he didn't feel as if he'd forgotten anything. It wasn't like he was taking much along.
"Got toothbrush, got towel," she replied, running through the mental list of things she'd packed and ignoring the girl stuff comment entirely, though she wrinkled her nose in his direction. "Change of clothes, extra socks, phone charger thing. Phone's in my pocket. Pictures are loaded onto my phone, though I'm pretty sure I've got the inside of that church memorized by now." She grinned a little. "And I'm being ridiculous, right? It's not like I can't just pop back if I did forget anything important." Granted, it'd be tiring - their trip to Rome had proven that. But it was do-able.
"Let's not, though," Cal retorted with a grin. "I think we're good, anyway. Right?" Totally.
Illyana cast one last look at her backpack doubtfully, then grinned and nodded. "Right." She cocked her head. "Angie's okay with this?"
It was Cal's turn to frown. "Why wouldn't she be?" Had he missed something obvious? Hopefully not.
"Umm...because she's your girlfriend?" Illyana pointed out, eyebrows raising incredulously. Honestly, he hadn't asked her? "I mean, she might have issues about you taking off to Spain for a few days with another girl, even if it's just me?" Which, yeah, as far as she was concerned, really shouldn't count, because...yeah, it was just her. But that didn't mean Angie'd feel the same way.
"Well, I mean, it is you," Cal stated, still frowning. "I mean, I told her about the trip! I just - didn't ask - and she didn't seem like she minded?" He shoved a hand in his pocket, where his phone was. "You think I should double check?" He really didn't want to screw things up with Angie. She was way too cool - and hot, which didn't take anything away from the brains on her.
"I don't know," Illyana replied, rolling her eyes. Honestly, guys were morons. "I mean, if you told her and she seemed cool with it, then she probably is, right? I wasn't there, and I don't know her all that well."
"Okay," Cal replied with a frown. He wasn't sure what to do with that. Ah, he'd text her from Spain as soon as he could. His frown cleared. "Okay! We good to go?"
Illyana nodded and grinned, reaching down to grab her backpack. "Ready. The church, then?" If they had the timing right, it should be empty. And she was not going to burst into flames. She repeated this internally a few times, smile still plastered in place. Part of her even believed it. Besides, she'd brought the "protection" candle Kitty'd gotten her, just in case.
"Totally," Cal nodded. Hell yeah, they were going to fucking Spain. "You wanna do the honors?"
"On it," she said, pulling out her phone and calling up the picture of the church in question - one that had a side chapel that she seriously doubted would be visible even if someone were in the church at this time of night, considering the nice floor plan they'd provided on the website. "If I pass out, please don't let me fall on anything religious?" she asked, just a little apprehensively. Because...well, he wouldn't. Probably. But she'd feel better hearing it anyway.
"If you pass out, I'm not letting you fall, period," Cal assured her, and stepped up close, hitching his backpack up on his shoulder and wrapping his other arm around her waist. He grinned at her. "Just making sure. But please don't pass out."
"Not on the itinerary," she assured him, squirming just a little so her own backpack wasn't banging him too badly. Holding up the phone so she could focus in on the picture, she grinned. "Spain, here we come." And with a flash of light, they disappeared.
After what seemed like forever but which was probably only a matter of seconds, a second flash of light heralded their arrival in a place far darker than the one they'd envisioned, and Illyana slumped back against Cal gratefully. "Please tell me we're in the right place?" she asked, her head spinning a little. "Because I'm not trying that again for at least an hour or two."
"That's what you've got me for," Cal assured her, but shone a little light around - he'd stopped by to see Jeanne-Marie earlier. "But it looks like we're good. Good job, Yana." He grinned down at her, still supporting her. "We're in Spain."
