Betsy needs to vent to Warren about upcoming Christmas plans, and he finds a way to both lend an ear and see the bright side of things.

It should be no surprise that on Warren's first night back at the mansion Betsy lured him off to her room and had no intention of giving him back before morning. She slid an arm across him, tucking her cheek against his chest as she cuddled close. Sometimes Betsy wondered how they'd even settled for cramming into those twin sized beds.

"So you survived Thanksgiving," she murmured. "I have a proposition and a question regarding Christmas."

Yes, Thanksgiving had been a thing to endure, and Warren was quite glad to put it behind him, honestly. He'd almost whined at Betsy's decision to bring it up right then, but she had (thankfully) flowed it into other plans. Warren settled some more at that, gently sliding his wing around her back as he kissed the top of her head. "What did you have in mind?"

It was probably going to be a yes, definitely, if it was any sort of invitation. The idea of something other than going home or traveling alone was definitely appealing to him.

"I would like you to come home with us, but Brian and I are at something of an impasse." She sighed. "It comes down to, he would like to be Lil home as well. He thinks that having two guests would be nice. He intends to bring her as his 'friend', which is exactly how you introduce the person you casually shack up with during holidays with. I think at this point the only way I can ask for you to join us without Brian being upset is if I grant permission for him to invite Lil as well. And then he can casually wonder why I'm icy when he introduces her to Mum." Betsy shifted against him, twining herself tighter against Warren as if she could just bury the problem and herself as well. "Am I being unreasonable? If I pressed the issue I think he just intended to house her in a hotel near home so he could still spend time with her, but then he continues to refuse to admit that she's more than his friend, and I'm really glad he's impossible to throttle."

Warren raised an eyebrow and glanced down at Betsy the best he could. Yeah, he'd gotten all of that information and processed it. However, there was one thing he was stuck on, just for the moment. "Wait a sec...Brian is casually hooking up with someone and wants to bring her home to your mother?"

Brian. As in the same Brian who gave Warren shit for the exact same thing earlier in the year?

"Exactly," Betsy said, finally sitting up enough to look at him. "He is so thick sometimes."

Warren looked up at her with disbelief for a few moments before his expression twisted into a smirk. Then he began to laugh. "I'm sorry...this is some sitcom-level comedy. How hard would he punch me if I pointed that out?"

"When I pointed it out he tried to explain how it wasn't the same!" Betsy smiled at Warren's reaction and reached to stroke her fingers affectionately through his hair. "Okay, so for a genius, my brother is an idiot. It's not just bias on my part, or blinding obstinance due to his taste. It's not the same by the way because you and I were destined to become a couple. Lil is just his friend, and she doesn't like him like that. Which, if that's actually true, just makes the situation worse."

Well that just sounded charming. 'I don't like you like that, but let me get off on you and bum a free trip to Britain.' Perhaps Lil was just using him for his money--which would not be unheard of at all, Warren knew for certain--but Brian was a big boy and could take care of himself. If he did not have a particular problem with that, then...well.

"No, certainly not the same thing." Warren held her gaze and maintained his smile as he reached up to caress Betsy's cheek. "Still surprising, nonetheless. Lil mustn't have much shame." Nor Brian, for that matter.

She turned her face to kiss his palm. "I know. Although I do think Brian is wrong. She's not good enough for my brother, but he has no grasp on relationships. I think she needs someone, and he is the current candidate. Maybe if they don't put their hearts on the line they can continue to be unbreakable. Not that I really want him officially date her... but I wish he'd stop being a hypocrite. Or better yet, I wish someone else with a similar power-set, and a better disposition would show up."

Whether or not Lil was good enough for Brian was something Warren wasn't sure how to weigh up. He wasn't at all close with Lil, nor did he know her, but did get off on the wrong foot with her. She was rude, and Warren didn't get the impression that she was very smart either. That was about the extent of his thoughts on her, though, and maybe...this could work in his favour.

"How do you think your mother will take to her?"

Betsy wasn't likely to rank any girl good enough for her brother after his last few dating attempts. She really liked Jeanne-Marie, but after she threw Brian over for Roberto, even her opinion of her friend had suffered. She understood Brian's overprotective tendency, and reflected it often. She just normally... tried not to voice her objections, unless things looked serious. Going home to Mother was serious.

"I think that our mother will be very kind to her, but I expect questions the minute she and Brian are out of the room."

Her over-protectiveness of her brother was actually quite apparent to Warren, and he couldn't help but find it endearing. Reaching up, Warren gently tucked her hair back. "And did you plan on answering them honestly?"

Personally, he wasn't sure what he would do in that situation. Warren had only ever been an only child and the whole concept of siblings and How Much Mother Should Know was quite lost on him.

"Honestly, but without detail. No need for everyone to be traumatized." She leaned to kiss the inside of Warren's wrist. Betsy was well practiced in omission, but she hated situations that called for lies. It seemed vulgar and unnecessary. Nothing said she had to answer everything. Her mother could make what she did from any empty replies.

Without being able to help himself, Warren let out an amused bark of a laugh. "Not traumatized like you so obviously have been. You're very thoughtful, sweetheart."

Betsy huffed softly but couldn't hide her smile. "You're to blame for my good disposition. I think I'd be less conscientious if I didn't have such pleasant distraction."

"Well, if you'd like, I would be happy to offer up some pleasant distraction over the holidays," Warren told her suggestively, and trailed his wing along the curves of Betsy's body. "Because I can't help but point out that, at the very least, your brother bringing company along can also mean more time to ourselves."

"A very fair point," Betsy agreed whole-heartedly. She leaned down to kiss him, mollified by this line of logic.

Warren moved in for the kiss, returning the gesture fondly. "Perhaps that could be incentive for you to bury some of your annoyances for the time being?" The words were mumbled against her lips.

"This seems reasonable," she murmured, letting one hand trail down his chest. "I do have better things to focus on right now."

"Indeed you do. I would be more than happy to allow you to do that, too." The grin was practically splitting his face now, and Warren leaned in to start pressing kisses and quick nips against the side of Betsy's neck.
