Kitty and Fraser share a dance, and Kitty persuades Fraser to let her teach him about dancing to music that doesn't always have a singular rhythm.
Fraser saw Kitty and Tony arrive at the dance together, but over the course of the evening they seemed to drift on their own separate ways. While he normally wouldn't impose on someone else's date, another slow song had started and Kitty was all by herself, looking rather uncomfortable. Fraser glanced around and saw that Tony was already dancing with someone else. That just wouldn't do. He went over to Kitty and presented an arm.
"Kitty, would you care to dance?" he asked.
She'd only met Benton through English and History classes, but she knew that he was quite smart and very cute, if a little on the spit and polish side. They really hadn't talked much, though, which was why Kitty blinked at him when he presented his arm.
"Uhm," she answered, but took his arm anyway. Sure, she had danced plenty already, but those were the fun, fast dances that didn't necessarily require a partner. Tony was awesome and hung out with her plenty, but whenever a slow song came on, she found herself just a little wiggly, not knowing what to do or where to go or who to talk to, really. So having Benton offer was kind of a huge relief, and she found herself grinning a little at him. "Thanks."
He smiled and escorted her to dance floor, not hesitating about settling a hand at her waist, but taking a very classic posture as they fell into position to dance. Even this he did by the books. "Are you enjoying the party?" he asked.
Kitty quickly pulled the kerchief over her face down to talk, a smile stretching her lips as she wrapped her fingers in his and placed her other hand lightly on his shoulder. He was so polite! And cute. And, you know, he'd asked her to dance. Her cheeks pinked a little and she nodded. "Oh yeah. I mean, this is only my third party ever, but it's so much fun. The food and the dancing and the music. And the costumes are amazing! People are so creative. Have you seen the Jamies? I never would have thought to bring a whole crew to costume with, much less your multiplied selves!"
"That was extremely impressive," Fraser agreed. "Everyone is so creative here. I've never been to a gathering quite like this one before."
"The only other one I've been to was a couple of months ago, at the Masquerade," Kitty confessed. "I'd like, never been to a party before coming here."
"I've been to parties, but nothing like this. They were more... rural." He looked thoughtful for a second, while simultaneously leading her in a nice turn around the floor. "The music is fascinating."
Kitty blinked at him in surprise, though she followed the turn carefully. "You've...never heard this music before?"
"Most of it? No," he admitted.
"Did you like, grow up in the middle of nowhere? I mean, I was pretty sure they still had radio stations in Canada!" Kitty grinned at him.
Fraser considered. "Some would consider the places I've lived in the middle of no where. I also lived with my grandparents until recently, so I would say their taste in music didn't quite match this. I do know some modern music! Not this..."
She just smiled at him warmly. "I can make you a playlist of songs if you want to listen to more! I mean, if you like a different kind of music, that's totally cool, but if you wanted..."
"I am always open to new possibilities," Fraser said easily. "Although... I really don't understand the song that Pietro said he picked for me. My taste might not be that refined?"
"What song did he pick out for you?" Kitty inquired, focusing on keeping her steps in time with his.
"It was called 'Canadian Boy'--which, that I understand but... the genre is not one I am very well versed in?" he stated as diplomatically as he could.
"Oof," Kitty made a face and laughed softly. "Hip-Hop. Sorta. I think? I'm not really, either, to tell you the truth."
"I believe that the genre requires rhythm, and I might fail horribly at that." He smiled. "I've been told that keeping count well and feeling the rhythm are two very different things, and I am very bad at the latter."
"Well yeah, duh," Kitty grinned. "One's about precision and thought, and the other's all about trusting your body and opening up to your emotions. I can try and teach you if you want?"
"Do you have a great deal of patience?" Fraser asked with a warm smile.
"Wellllll," Kitty couched, "Maybe not a great deal, but I think we can make it work."
"I would be honoured, Kitty."
Cheeks flushed for a moment, then Kitty tried to dismiss the thought. She'd been getting into enough trouble with all of her crushes lately. Or, you know, just the one. "Swell! Maybe next week sometime? The dance room?"
"As long as we don't have an audience, I'm game," he agreed.
"Promise," Kitty nodded seriously. "I'll make sure no one interrupts."
Fraser spun her in a careful circle. "Then I put myself in your hands." He grinned. "And wish you luck."
