Kurt and Rogue talk and get to know one another during drama class.

Her fellow classmates seemed nice enough, Rogue guessed, but she was still too sulky to respond to their friendly overtures with more than a weak smile and a few words. She sat in the corner of her drama class, watching the other kids enjoy themselves with something like longing in her, but was just to annoyed with herself to keep it up. Instead, she took to acting like she didn't care about anything.

Still, the TA seemed nice. And he was blue and furry which was pretty bad ass. She'd seen him on TV before, she was pretty sure--she'd seen a lot more mutants from Xavier's than she'd expected, actually, as it turned out.

Kurt’s attention moved off the happily talking students and onto the new student, Rogue. She’d spent most, if not all, of the class sitting by herself. She hadn’t seemed uninterested, but it hadn’t seemed like she wanted to be here either. He watched her a moment longer, concerned, then set his paperwork aside and went over.

Hallo,” Kurt greeted as he dropped into the seat beside her.

Rogue looked up through a cascade of red hair. If the look seemed suspicious, well, she was trying to make it be. Except, Mr. Wagner--Kurt, whatever--seemed so damn nice. He made it hard. "Hey," she said.

Sulky, but whatever. He had enough perk for both of 'em, right?

It wasn’t the worst response Kurt could have gotten. He smiled and sunk into the seat a little more, leaning his arm on the armrest. “Enjoying class?”

Rogue shrugged, but said, "Yeah. I mean, so far. You're... pretty good at this kinda stuff, huh?" He was animated and social and... happy. It was kinda nice, even if she wasn't willing to admit it out loud.

“Am I?” Kurt asked, flattered by the compliment. “Danke. I am trying to be. I love theater, but sometimes that is not always enough. I was a performer, you know, before I came here. In the circus.”

In spite of herself, that made Rogue sit up straighter and look Kurt in the eye. His were--fascinating, really. "The circus, wow. I mean, I been to the circus, but I never met anyone who actually worked with one. What was it like?"

“I loved it,” Kurt answered with a smile that said more than those three words ever could. “I was an aerialist and an acrobat. It was amazing. There is nothing like performing in front of a crowd, and there is something special about getting to make people happy by doing something that makes you happy.”

Rogue's eyebrows crawled slowly up her forehead as he spoke. She'd never really known anyone who was so... just open with how much they loved things. Maybe it was because he was older and--awesome. Not that she'd tell him that, but still. He obviously was. "Wow. That's--that's kinda crazy. I never loved doing anything like that. You must be kinda bored, here."

“Oh, not at all,” Kurt replied, shaking his head. “I love it here. I love TAing, I love the students. And the people here are some of the best friends I’ve ever had. I may miss performing and it can be hard being so far from the troupe and my family, but I do not regret being here for one second.”

"Even though you're away fro your family..." Rogue looked down at her desk and shrugged again. "I guess it must be pretty good, then."

Not that she wanted to be back in Mississippi or anything. It was shit. And she'd put her first kiss in a coma. And Irene obviously had enough of her. So whatever.

“It is,” Kurt agreed with a smile. “I do not know where I would be without it.” In many ways, really, not just because of Amos Jardine’s circus. Being at the school had changed him, shaped him for the better.

"That sounds... unbelievable," she admitted. "But kinda nice. I guess."

Kurt nodded. “It is maybe not the place for everyone. But it is not a bad place to be for a little while.” He smiled at Rogue.

"Well, I don't have much of a choice," she said, hating the way her own bitterness sounded in her ears. She meant it to sound grown-up; she sounded like a big baby. "But I guess I can make the most of it. I mean, they have drama class, so it can't be all bad, right?"

“Not all bad,” Kurt agreed, smiling. “For what it is worth, I am glad you are here.” He knew it wouldn’t make things better. It had to be hard to be taken away from home when you didn’t want to be. But maybe it would help, even just a little, to hear she was wanted.

She smiled before she could bite it back, tucked her hair behind her ear, and looked at the ground. But said. "Thanks. I guess." But then she looked up, and the smile reached her eyes. She meant it.

Kurt returned the smile.“No thanks needed.” He sighed, then looked out at the theater and the rest of the students. “I should get back to the class, but I will see you around, ja?”

Rogue nodded, causing her white lock of hair to slip down in front of her face again. She tucked it behind an ear and nodded, smiling. "Yeah."
