Tybalt enjoys some sunshine, only to be interrupted by Teon, who has better plans for him.
There was no way Tybalt was admitting it, but this was his first proper pool party. That and the potential of super powered water hijinx had him playing the sneaky observer at first. Getting wet was not a priority. Though once he got the lay of the land, mischief definitely was! Since everyone was otherwise occied, it should be the perfect time to find some fun. So he went sauntering down to the pool, clad in a pair of blue board shorts and not much else and with his mind on how to make an entrance. A splash if you will.
Unfortunately he was making the classic cat mistake. If you're looking for prey, you also need to wAtch out for other people with the same idea.
It was hot, but it was summer, and while Teon came from cooler climates, he knew heat, and he knew how to beat it. Tybalt, his good friend, his best of friends, wasn't doing what he could to stay cool. Teon planned on helping him fix that.
It was kind of uncanny as to how quiet Teon could be when he put his mind to it. Wearing only red swim trunks with a black stripe down the side, Teon ape-walked up to stand alongside his roommate. The pool was on Tybalt's left, and Teon on his right.
"Hello," Teon said, amiably, smiling. "Hot day," he remarked.
"It certainly is." Nope, Tybalt was not going to let it show that he'd been surprised. Teon could be quiet, but that didn't mean Tybalt wasn't going to play it cool.
Teon nodded. "Swim?" Teon asked, innocently. Whether he was asking if Tybalt planned on doing so, or if it was asking for permission to do so himself was unclear, but given Teon's own intelligence, it seemed far more likely he was asking the former. Honestly, Teon didn't see why Tybalt wouldn't. It was bordering on dangerously hot for those without stronger constitutions. Teon knew his own limits, but did Tybalt?
Tybalt half turned to regard the pool. "No, I think not." He concluded fitmly. "But by all means, don't let me stop you." Not that Tybalt had any doubt that he'd have more trouble stopping his roommate from doing anything than it was worth.
Perhaps it was simply Teon's own personal, strange sense of humor at the remark of not letting Tybalt stop him. Perhaps it was simply a joke, or a prank, or the fact that Teon thought he knew what was best for Tybalt. Either way, the result was the same.
Teon moved, shockingly quick, and got Tybalt in a one-armed tackle, hauling him off of his feet as Teon himself leaped, grinning wildly, directly into the pool. "Swim!" Teon declared, for all to hear, just before they broke the surface. At least Teon was kind enough to release Tybalt to swim on his own once they were both in, Teon himself swimming a few feet away before surfacing, popping up and blinking somewhat in confusion. Why did this water smell so weird? And why did his eyes sting a little?
All Tybalt managed was an undignified squawk of surprise and outrage before he found himself hurtled into the pool. At least he had the presence of mind to close his mouth before he got it fillec with chlorine cocktail. It was a very unhappy Tybalt the broke the surface and shot an angry glare Teon's way. "You insufferable ass." He growled with a venomous glare at Teon.
If the insult meant anything to Teon, it didn't show other than a tilt of his head as he began to swim back towards Tybalt. "Swim! Fun!" Teon said, as if it was an explanation, starting a lazy, curving path around Tybalt. Conveniently just out of arm's reach.
Tybalt growled low in his throat, a sound he definitely felt lacked a certain gravitas in human form. But it was the best way to express how he felt about Teon and his blithe unwillingness to even allow Tybalt the release of yelling at him. At least human form gave Tybalt hands with which to send a surprisingly big splash of water at Teon's head.
Oddly, if anything was going to get Teon's attention that he'd done wrong, it was the growl, and a momentary look of contrition flickered over Teon's face. Then the splash cascaded over his head, and he sputtered, grinning and laughing like an idiot. Teon figured Tybalt was trying to play with him, at that point in time, and so Teon rose to the challenge by returning fire, splashing back at Tybalt, having apparently just enough motivation to launch a sizable splash at him.
The momentary contrite look did a lot to soothe Tybalt's mercurial moods. Especially when it was followed by comic spluttering. By the time Teon was splashing back, Tybalt was grinning. Sure, there was a bit of an edge to it caused by the remaining knot of annoyance, but it was a better expression. He half turned to not take the wave full in the fact and started to vigorously splash back. "I'm going to get you." The declaration of revenge went well beyond some splashing right now. Tybalt just hadn't quite figured out the appropriate counterprank. But he would.
The water crashed over Teon, who only was grinning and sputtering, not bothering to deflect any of it. Why bother? It was just water. Teon laughed at Tybalt's declaration of vengeance, but not in a mean way, wading through the onslaught of splashing, before leaping into the air to try to tackle Tybalt back into the pool. "Get you!" Teon laughed, arms outstretched to grab Tybalt.
This time, Tybalt was prepared. He didn't like water, but that didn't mean he didn't know how to swim. And diving under the surface was far preferable to being tackled by an exuberant boy with vastly superior strength. Tybalt wriggled under the tackle with slippery grace and resurfaced behind Teon with a cheeky grin. "You will have to do better than that then." Okay, so maybe he was enjoying this now. But only a little.
Teon surfaced, shaking his head to get the water from his eyes, and turned to face Tybalt. "Fun!" he shouted, jumping again at Tybalt, but not as high this time, going for a faster tackle.
Fun was relative. Tybalt was warming to the game, but that didn't mean he felt like betting body tackled. Sadly, diving under water wouldn't work again though. Not that Tybalt was out of tricks just yet. As Teon dived for him, Tybalt's shape collapsed in on itself. A cat was much smaller than a boy, allowing him to evade the grab. Okay, he was just as wet as if he'd been tackled. Maybe more so. But it was the principle of the thing that made Tybalt smug.
However, it had certainly been unexpected enough that Teon surfaced again, confused and looking around for something human-sized before he locked eyes on the cat-form of Tybalt. Still, Teon realized that maybe he'd have a harder time staying afloat as a cat than as a boy, so Teon just waited for Tybalt to shift back, whenever that might be, smiling and chuckling. This was a fun time! And Teon wasn't going to ruin his own fun by chancing an accident with a cat in the water being tackled or grabbed. Still, he was within a quick arm's reach if need be, just in case he started to panic or something.
Well, that was mighty sportsmanlike of Teon. Tybalt certainly wasn't going to miss the chance to return to human form, waterlogged fur was far from his favorite way to be. As quickly as he'd shrunk he was back to normal and back to grinning. "You're very exhausting." He didn't expect Teon would get what he'd mean, but his tone was friendly and that would do. there were other kids around, so Tybalt took a second to glance about and see where everyone was. Though he kept one eye on Teon and the inevitable next attack.
Teon grinned, and nodded at Tybalt's statement about how he was. "Get drinks?" he asked, figuring that if Tybalt was exhausted, he could probably use some refreshment, and playtime could pick back up later. "Snacks, too?" If Tybalt had learned anything in his months with Teon, it was that the kid could eat. A lot. Often.
So he had understood. Interesting. Tybalt was really going to have to put some effort in to figure out his roommate better. The fact that he was willing to do that was an indication that he liked the other boy. "Why not? Lead the way." Tybalt's tone of voice was diffident. But much as he was relaxed about it, he did prefer to keep his unpredictable roommate where he could see him while dunkings were possible.
The Ukrainian kid gave an enthusiastic nod, and went to the nearest edge of the pool, pulling himself out, dripping and soaked, before turning, ready to offer a helping hand to Tybalt if he was taking the direct route and needed a hand.
