A double date involves bowling. And everyone getting their own bowling shoes, because Harry is absurd. Who will win, the girls or the boys? WE MAY NEVER KNOW.
The place smelled like wax, bratty children, old shoe deodorant, and bad nacho cheese. Harry liked one of those things, and it wasn't the first three. He settled the bags Felicia had left in the Town Car for them before it picked them up at school--each with a name on it. "Okay, guys, these are still fuck ugly, but they're better than what's in that shelf of death over there. Take your bag and go to town."
Harry's was a classic shoe that... he didn't actually hate entirely. He and Pete had the same one, but Harry's was in black while Peter's was, of course, in red and blue. Both the girls got plaid--Alice a more burberry coloring and Kitty silver and red.
Peter picked up the bag with his name on it, and brought it over to a seat. “I can’t believe you really bought us our own shoes. You’re such a nerd,” he teased fondly. He unzipped the bag and pulled out the shoes, chuckling to himself when he saw they were red and blue. Funny, Harry. Sitting down, he untied his Converse, pulled them off, and replaced them with the bowling shoes.
Once the bowling shoes were tied, Peter stood and looked toward the concession stand. “I’ll grab drinks, and snacks if everyone wants to tell me what they want.”
Kitty flicked her gaze between Peter (and his red and blue shoes) and the other two, then ducked down to work on tying on her own, which were really cute, she had to admit. Not her colors, but adorable. She wasn't sure how she felt about Harry Osborn buying her shoes (it was kind of weird okay?) but she just bit her lip and kept her trap shut about it. Polite! She was going to be polite and nice this time around, because biting the head off of Peter's best friend was...completely unacceptable.
Not that she wanted to. She just...felt bad about that time with Doug, and she should probably apologize about that, but...not now. Okay, Pryde. Out of your head. Smile at Alice. So she smiled.
"I'll come and help," Alice replied, finishing tying up her shoes. Her very own bowling shoes. She couldn't quite believe Harry, although of course she could. He was Harry. She caught Kitty's smile and returned it, out of instinct; she was in a good mood, despite the fact that she didn't give a shit about bowling. Because it really wasn't about the bowling.
"You know, owning my own pair of bowling shoes really wasn't on my bucket list," she told Harry with a half smile, clearly teasing rather than mocking, as she laid a hand on his back briefly, and stood to join Peter. But, as far as bowling shoes went, they were pretty sweet, and fit the jeans and sweater she was wearing tonight. What more could she ask. "Any specific requests?"
"Anything with that nasty nacho cheese. That shit is amazing," Harry said, already tying his own shoes. "And PS, I'm not a nerd, I'm discerning."
Peter shook his head. “As someone who knows nerds, I can safely say that you, Harry Osborn, are a nerd,” he told Harry, grinning. “A big one.” Sorry, Harry, there was no getting out of this one.
“And fries with nasty nacho cheese it is.” Peter offered an arm to Alice, “Shall we?”
"Grab me an order of loaded potato skins and the biggest coke you can find?" Kitty asked with a grin as she finished tying on her shoes.
"Totally might try and steal one of those," Harry told her as the other two walked off. "But feel free to swat at me. Not that I think you need permission."
"I still can't believe you convinced Harry to have a bowling date," Alice grinned at Peter, her hand curled in the crook of his elbow as they headed off towards the vendor.
“Psh, it wasn’t that hard,” Peter replied, grinning back at Alice. “Harry grumbles, but dude is a softie. He pretends he isn’t nice, but he totally is.”
They stopped at the counter and Peter smiled at the boy working behind it, “Hey, man. Um, we’ll have, uh, loaded potato skins, and cheese fries. And four large--” He stopped there since he wasn’t sure Alice wanted a coke too, and looked over at her for confirmation.
"Cokes," Alice finished without missing a beat. "Make that two skins and two fries, actually." She grinned at Peter. "You can never get enough of those."
“You heard the lady,” Peter said with a grin, and dug his wallet out of his back pocket.
As the boy started to get there order together, Peter looked over at Alice, and gave her a smile, “Thanks for coming tonight.”
"Like I'd miss this," she answered with a smile, pulling her own wallet out of her purse. "Half and half," she told him before he might protest, and she wouldn't take no for an answer.
Peter chuckled, “Alright, half and half.” He pulled out a few bills, and then tucked his wallet away.
While Peter and Alice were gone, Kitty grinned over at Harry. "Heck, you can have half. I don't think I can eat all of it on my own."
"Not with that attitude," Harry said, straightfaced. "Whose idea was this bowling thing, anyhow? Yours or Pete's?"
"I'm a fan of bowling, but if it were me, we'd be out on the ice. Besides, does it matter? You're gonna have fun for once in your life. And I'll kick your ass while you do it," Kitty smirked.
"Hey, I'm fun," Harry protested with a smile. "Fun is my middle name. I just don't think it's fun to wear someone else's nasty old shoes, is all."
Kitty lifted up a foot with a grin. "I think you fixed that one. They're awesome, by the way. Thanks for going to that much trouble just for a night out."
"Glad you like them, and you're welcome," Harry said easily, grinning at her foot. "But it's all right, I paid someone else to go to the trouble. Everyone's happy."
Dropping her foot back to the floor, she smiled up at him, then tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "You know, I never did apologize for the whole, you know, barging into your room and accusing you of attempted kidnapping thing."
"Now that you mention it..." Harry's smile turned into a smirk. "No, you did not. Though, to be fair, I should probably get used to it now I'm back in New York. Oscorp isn't exactly angelic."
"When I am, really and truly, it will be as angelic as I can make it," Harry said with a snort. Then, drily, he added, "While Norman's around, well... he's Norman. But I do everything I can to undermine his people, for what its worth."
"Well, for what it's worth, I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions and misjudged you," Kitty shrugged gently. "I'm sure you're going to make Oscorp amazing." Seeing Alice and Peter on their way back, she winked. "And also? You're going down, Osborn."
"Tough talk, Pryde," Alice replied with a wide grin as they joined them, and started setting down food and drinks. "You're going first, now. Gotta show us how much you mean it."
“Those sound like the words of someone who’s afraid to go first,” Peter teased, grinning. He grabbed Kitty’s soda from out of what was basically a junk food cornucopia, and brought it over to her.
Harry had finished making a face at Kitty and dissolved into a smile, by then. "Ladies first!" He grabbed for his cheese fries.
Kitty took a slurp of her coke and stuck a potato skin between her lips as she turned to set up the game, quickly devouring the delicious snack as she loaded all of their names. Then she hopped up to waggle her brows and choose an appropriate ball. "Okay so. I haven't done this in ages. Fair warning."
"That's you and me both, then," Alice stated with a smirk. And she didn't think that Jenna had any bowling muscle memory to help out.
“Maybe we should have got bumpers after all,” Peter joked and dropped down into a seat, grabbing a few nacho cheese loaded fries. They smelled pretty freakin’ amazing, and--he took a bite--yup, tasted pretty freakin’ amazing too.
"And we do have an unfair advantage in sheer power," Harry pointed out. The superstrength on either him or Pete could crush the lanes, if they weren't careful. Which they would be, but still.
"Among others," Alice remarked with a smirk, but she really didn't care if they won the game. Because of their mutations or not. Harry was on a bowling double date; that was really all that mattered here. She reached for a fry and grinned at her partner. "Come on, Kitty. Show them how it's done."
Kitty flashed a grin at Alice, because, okay, that broke the ice a bit, then headed toward the lane, setting up and letting the ball fly. It weebled a bit, swinging wide, but at least took out three pins to the left. Good enough for her as she started to remember how this was done. When she flopped back into her seat, she grabbed a potato skin, kicking her feet out in front of her. "Haarrry."
He set aside his fries reluctantly, but stood and stretched. "Okay, I gotta be able to beat that." He smirked at Kitty before approaching the lane and hefting a ball.
The first one slipped off to the side--he threw a little too hard and it just clipped the side, knocking the end pin into a bunch of others. The second throw got rid of all the others... except one, of course. "Goddammit."
It hadn’t even occurred to Peter that his superstrength would be an advantage. He popped up onto his feet and walked up to the lane, bumping shoulders with Harry and grinning at him as he passed him.
Peter grabbed a bowling ball at random and lined himself up on the lane before sending it down the lane. He over-estimated his strength. While the ball rolled straight down the middle, it didn’t strike the pins hard enough. Three tipped over, another only wobbling before righting itself. He flashed a chagrined grin back at his friends, and picked up the second ball. This one fared better, and knocked over the remaining pins.
"Well, here's to hoping Jenna was a pro at bowling, and her muscle memory kicks in," Alice grinned as she picked up the ball she'd chosen earlier. Nothing too heavy for her, but it still felt like a decent weight, so she felt like she could better control it.
Her first throw had the ball rolling straight down the middle, and it knocked down all but three of the pins - one on one end, two on the other. Obviously. "Seriously," Alice chuckled, and waited for her ball to return to go for another throw. She misjudged it, though, and the ball finished in the gutter before touching any pins. She turned to Kitty with a what-can-you-do expression.
"I think you should get one of those pros at the counter to come play for our team," Kitty mock-whispered across at her.
"You're gonna need it." Harry grinned, all cheeky, and held out a fist for Peter to bump.
Peter bumped his fist against Harry’s. “You guys are going down.” He grinned over at Kitty and Alice, but mostly Kitty.
"Yeah, yeah." Alice rolled her eyes good-naturedly, coming back to sit beside Kitty and grab another few fries, shoulders companionably touching in a show of team solidarity. "Big talk from guys with relevant mutations."
"That's our team name, Pete," Harry said. "Ladies, prepare to be destroyed by Relevant Mutations."
The place smelled like wax, bratty children, old shoe deodorant, and bad nacho cheese. Harry liked one of those things, and it wasn't the first three.
