Looking for Jack, Sirius finds Steve instead. Steve tries to reassure Sirius there's not hard feelings but the Brit boy isn't ready to be forgiven just yet.

Jack being involved in security, Sirius often checked in with him about potential albeit unlikely security risks. Sirius wasn't the only known face but he was a reality star and that meant inviting the public in to so much of his life that sometimes things got blurred for some people. Nothing to worrying about, just the odd weird fan mail or tweet or whatever.

Still, worth checking in with him. Jack wouldn't let him hear the end of it otherwise. So he headed down the hallway to check in with him.

Sometimes Steve was sure that his life was nothing but training and classes. He had squad training and team training and training with Philip and then there was the time he spent in the gym on his own and then there were his classes on top of that. So of course, he was leaving Jack's room to go to training. This time, at least, he didn't have to be anywhere on a schedule. He was going to be working on his own, getting a little jogging in with an audiobook.

He started a little when he opened the door and saw someone who looked like they were about to knock. The guy looked familiar, but Steve couldn't have put a name to the face.

Sirius froze, ok so it had been months but he still felt horribly guilty and he might be perfectly innocent in his calling for Jack but Steve wasn't to know that, was he?

"Um, sorry." He mumbled and starting to back away.

"You looking for Jack?" Steve asked. "He's not back yet." He offered the guy a hand. "Steve."

"Yeah, I know who you are," Sirius nodded. He wanted out but, well, he was here innocently and running off would just make it look like he wasn't. Slowly he accepted the hand "'M Sirius."

"Oh," Steve said, which made clear that he at least knew something about Sirius. But instead of just yanking his hand back, he nodded. "Nice to finally put a face with the name."

"Oh, right, of course." He knew, of course he knew. Pulling his hand away, he shoved his hand in his pocket. "I...sorry...um...I should go then."

Steve hesitated. He almost let Sirius go, but it was obvious that the guy was uneasy around him. "It's fine", he said, not specifying exactly what was fine. "Do you want me to say anything the next time I see him?"

Sirius stood there awkwardly with hands in his pockets. "It was just a security thing, um you know anon messages and stuff. Probably nothing serious but he likes to...I'll come by some time when you're both here." He was trying to make a point that no he wasn't trying for Jack alone, honest. I'm not after your man.

Steve's eyebrows lifted. Maybe 'fine' wasn't clear enough. "You don't have to find a time when I'm around. You didn't this time," he pointed out, no accusation in his voice. Maybe he didn't like the idea that Sirius had kissed Jack, but he could understand the urge. He'd kissed Jack the second time they'd talked. What was important to him was that nothing had happened.

"It was just an impulse visit, got more messages and thought...never mind. I'll, uh, stop bothering you." He mumbled, embarrassment wasn't a usual a thing for him but he was still mortified by his drunken behaviour. Never mess with happy couples was rule #1.

"I'm not pissed," Steve finally came out and said. Since Sirius didn't seem to be taking his hints.

Sirius's eyes widened, ok they were gonna go there were they?

"What, seriously? I mean you absolutely have every right to be, I was a complete idiot. No excuses."

"And that's why I'm not pissed," Steve pointed out. "If you'd kissed him because you meant to, because you were trying to seduce him, then I would have been mad. But from what Jack told me, you weren't."

Sirius nodded slightly, feeling like he owed an explanation. "I was really drunk and upset, he was just trying to look after me. I...shouldn't have done it. Moment of madness. I'm sorry."

Steve thought about the occasion fights he'd get into in town and nodded. "We all have moments." And then, lest Sirius think he didn't care if someone kissed Jack at all, he added, "Just don't let it happen again."

"Oh God no, no fear there!" Sirius hurried to tell him with earnestly. "Really, no threat here, I swear."

Under other circumstances, Steve would laugh at how fast Sirius seemed to be backpedaling, but this wasn't really a laughing matter. "Okay, then. I'll make sure Jack knows you're looking for him."

"Thanks, um, tell him it's nothing to rush about. Just a few online threats, he just likes to be aware and all...so, I'll leave you be then..."

Steve sighed. He'd tried telling Sirius that it was fine, but it seemed like it wasn't going to do any good. At least not at the moment. Maybe all it needed was time.

It wasn't that Sirius was ignoring him, it was just that he was very, very good at blaming and self-loathing once he was allowed to stew and he'd had months to beat himself up. It might sink in eventually, he just needed time.
