When Pietro went to visit his mom during the break, Victor and Vance made a giant fort and camped out together for the week. They had their own little holiday from their relationship troubles.
They had made a fort again. Because they were fourteen and fifteen and when things got tough they pretty much hid away from the things. At least relationshipwise.
So in the middle of 104 West there was a big fort made out of sheets, blanket and bedding. There were drinks and snacks both savoury and sweet and a few texts books because this was allegedly a study date (yeah right). Quite simply, everything was as it had been before things got complicated for them.
Vance was on his stomach, head propped up in a hand as he split his time between glancing blankly at his biology book and looking over at Victor. He couldn't help but smile.
Victor could feel himself being watched but pretended not to notice, for the moment anyway. His own textbook wasn't actually even open as he watched the laptop screen and grinned to himself a little. Perfect lazy afternoon.
"How'd you get into this show, anyway?" Vance wondered during a brief lull in the show. It was funny, really funny, but it wasn't exactly from nearby.
"Curtis, who else?" Victor pointed out with a laugh. "He can get the UK channels on his laptop, they have some awesome shows over there." The green boy told him enthusiastically as he lent over to help himself to the popcorn they'd made up.
"I should've guessed." He really should've, too. Curtis got them all kinds of cool stuff - tv shows, movies, music. "I wonder why it's not on tv here? I mean, it's good!"
"Yeah but they only occasionally do American stuff and like all the history they do it's not always good stuff. Like they've got a thankgiving song that has a line about how the settlers screwed over the Native Americans, I bet networks don't like that sorta thing in kids shows." Victor pointed out, it was actually a point Curtis made to him when they'd had the same discussion but he was sure the older boy wouldn't mind him taking credit to look smart for a minute.
Vance thought about that for a minute. "Huh. Maybe not. Guess I'd never really thought about how they teach it in other countries, though. I mean, it's kinda, like....an America holiday, isn't it?"
"Yeah, Curtis said that other than American sitcoms it's not much mentioned in England, I mean they've got loads more history of their own to learn, you know? And we never get taught that, well I haven't anyway." Which was why he liked the show, it was learning that didn't feel like learning. Like he could now name all the kings and queens of England in order because he'd had the song stuck in his head for a week.
After a moments searching, Victor found more of the American themed sketches on youtube. He clicked first on Bob Hale's American Report.
Nodding a little as he thought that over, Vance decided that made some sense. It wasn't as though they learned a ton about other countries' histories. They learned some, definitely. He remembered in seventh grade they'd been assigned roles and played out a serfdom when they'd been learning European history. But he couldn't, like, talk about the ins and outs of most of it.
Rolling onto his back and stretching out a little, Victor looked around as he shifted a little closer to his boyfriend. "Where'd the mountain dew go?" He asked. Only problem with the fort: things kept vanishing under layers of duvet and pillows.
Vance twisted, reaching around to feel for the bottle.
He might've ended up patting Victor random places. Y'know, by accident. But he did eventually locate the two liter. "Here it is."
"Well, that makes more sense than in my chest." < i>Or any of the other places. Victor snickered before taking the bottle "Thanks, want some?"
"Sure!" Hey, Vance was always game for more caffeine and sugar.
The area was too precarious for cups so they were passing the bottle back and forth. Sharing drinks wasn't weird at all, after all they made out and stuff.
After downing a load, Victor passed it back and totally wasn't checking out the way Vance's shirt was all tight and clingy and how it had ridden up a little. Ok, maybe it was all he'd been noticing all afternoon but yeah.
Vance took a long sip, tipping his head back and swallowing it. Mmmmm. Dew. He offered Vic the bottle. "More?"
"Yeah." In leaning forward to take the bottle, he turned his head and pecked a quick kiss to the blonde's lips before sitting back looking very pleased with himself as he swigged at the sugary drink. He was so going to end up hyper tonight but with Pietro out of town who cared? Plan pretty much was that Vance was moving in for the week.
His boyfriend chuckled, and rolled on to his side to look at Victor better. "Proud of yourself, huh?"
"Awesome fort, cute guy I can steal kisses and mountain dew off of? Yeah, I'm pretty proud of myself." Victor grinned back.
"Dunno if you can call it 'stealing kisses' if I give 'em to you for free." Vance teased.
"Yeah but you could say that about the mountain dew too." The green boy pointed out as he screwed the cap back on. "What can I say? I just can't resist."
"Me, or the soda?"
"Which do you think?"
Vance pretended to think about it really, really hard. "The soda," he finally pronounced, laughter in his voice.
Laughing too, Victor pounce on the blonde "Guess again."
There was a shout of laughter, and Vance let Vic pin him to the floor. "How many guesses do I get?" He joked. "I might need more than one."
"You already had one guess." Was pointed out quickly as Vance's wrists got pinned above his head. "So you only get one more."
"Aren't I supposed to get three?" Vance asked innocently.
"Nope, you're thinking wishes."
"Wishes and guesses are different?" He was grinning as he jokingly pretended to try and tug himself free. "Why would I only get two guesses? That's a weird number."
"Coz there's only two options, you goof." Victor laughed as he lent his face down close to his boyfriend's
Vance leaned up and kissed him playfully. "But I'm your goof?"
"Mm, if you want to be." He'd been trying his best after recent events to not come on to strong. He'd already been the first to say 'I love you' (and way to quickly at that) and he'd not yet heard it back. Then the whole vodka incident at game night. Basically he was more than a little worried about pushing his luck, even when Vance was the one starting something.
"'Course I do." Vance leaned up and kissed him again happily.
Still holding the other boy's wrists though looser now, Victor kissed back happily.
Pulling back, the older boy grinned. "Okay. Maybe I only need the one extra guess."
"Good." Victor rolled off of him but was still lying next to him, facing him with one leg draped over Vance a little still. "And that would be..."
Vance grinned mischievously. "The soda."
"Yup!" Victor laughed, rolling away to grab the bottle.
The other teen stuck his tongue out, before putting it away to focus on more important tasks. Like getting some Pringles out of the container. Man, he loved eating this stuff. Thank goodness his poor mother couldn't see him now.
"We should do this more often." Victor decided as he stretched out lazily.
"Lay on the floor and watch tv?" Vance could definitely get behind that.
"Well yeah that too, I meant the hanging out. We haven't done this so much lately." The laughter and fun-having bits in general had been getting fewer as the disagreements about their situation and Vance's handling of said situation increased.
Vance was quiet for a minute, flipping through his memory. That couldn't be true, could it? He loved hanging out with Victor, usually. Except, maybe...maybe it had been less, recently. Because they would fight, or he'd be a terrible boyfriend. Vance would be, that was. Not Vic.
"We do," he agreed, nodding enthusiastically.
Having noticed the momentarily serious expression on Vance's face, Victor had shifted closer again and wrapped a green arm around him as he kissed him softly. He didn't need to know exactly what was being thought to know that Vance was probably being mean to himself. His horrible dad had practically trained him to somehow find blame on himself with almost everything ever.
The other boy smiled against Victor's lips. "This gonna be part of it, too?"
"Mmmhmm." Victor nodded very seriously. "When you have a cute boyfriend it's practically a crime to not kiss him as often as possible."
Vance laughed. "If that was a crime, I'd already be in jail."
Vic's nose scrunched up a little "I was talking about you not me." Because, seriously, Vance could flatter all he wanted but green and scaley were not ingredients for cute.
"Well I'm talking about you," his boyfriend said, leaning in to give Vic a quick peck on the lips. "You're cute. Can't convince me otherwise."
Victor pulled a face at the words but decided not to argue, he didn't want to argue again. Instead he just shifted closer to his boyfriend, fingers playing absently with the slightly hiked up hem of his shirt.
"Want me to prove it?" Vance's voice was a little teasing, but he was totally serious.
Vic couldn't help rolling his eyes a little bit. "How would you prove something like that?"
Using their tangled legs, Vance rolled them over so that he was straddling Victor's hips. Still smiling, he reached down and went to tug the other teen's shirt off. "Well, for example, I like this part of you." He bent down and kissed his boyfriend's green forehead.
"My forehead? What?" Victor was already laughing from being flipped and the building sugar rush anyway but forehead? Seriously?
He did lift himself up a little to help with the shirt removing though.
"Your brain," Vance corrected. "You're smart, and you're funny, and you really think things through."
Oh, right, his personality was cute. That made more sense. Vance was saying his mind was cute not his scaley face. That was way more believable.
"And I like your spikes," he continued, slipping a hand up to run gently against them. "They're awesome. And you look awesome with them."
Understanding had shifting to something closer to disbelief on Vic's face. He didn't think Vance was lying exactly, it was just a little but hard to believe. The spike's were one of the key things that looked extra 'non-humany' on him and he'd downright hated them for a long time. He'd made peace now but that didn't mean he had to actually like them or thought anyone else would or could.
Vance couldn't help chuckling. "Don't look at me like that, it's true!" He slipped his hand up and over one. "They're hot."
If anything that made the 'Do Not Comprehend' face even more intense. Six packs were hot not green spikes in the head.
The older teen let out an amused and tolerant sigh. "Believe me, would ya?"
"I'm trying it's just, well, hard."
"It's all true," Vance promised. "I'd never lie about that. I don't need to."
"I know you don't lie Vance, I just..." Victor struggled to find a way to explain it. "I just don't agree personally so..." And he wasn't fishing for compliments, he really wasn't. It was just what he thought.
"Well, if you thought you were as cute as I think you are, you'd never get out of your room. You'd be stuck in there looking at your mirror," he said good-naturedly.
"I guess." Was sighed in agreement, a small smile forming. Besides he couldn't be too unhappy or whatever coz Vance was still straddling him and that usually led to really good things.
Vance smiled brightly, and leaned down to kiss him again.
Vic did his best to kiss back and try to just push out all self-conscious thoughts. He wasn't completely successful but it was a start.
As he let himself enjoy how Victor tasted, and how soft his lips were, Vance slowly slipped one hand up the other boy's exposed stomach and chest. The scales were lukewarm, almost cool, and rough. Interesting. Unique. They were Victor.
The green boy couldn't hold back a sigh and groan, the hand felt hot to him and he never quite got used to how that temperature difference felt when bare skin met bare skin (well, scales). One hand came up to thread in Vance's hair and the other clutched to the older boys t-shirt as the lizard tongue flicked and teased against lips, begging for entrance.
And he got it, even as Vance traced the lines of his torso.
Victor's hand tighten in the blonde hair, tugging just a little but not roughly.
"Believe I think you're cute now?" Vance breathed, pulling back only an inch or so. Their lips were still brushing. It tickled, but in a good way. A really good way.
With a small grin, enjoying everything way too much for it to stop, Vic told him. "Hmmm, not sure I'm convinced yet."
So Vance moved further south, and set his mouth to Victor's collarbone. "I like this spot, too. It smells like you here. It's really good."
Well, Victor had never had any real issue with that part of his body and what Vance was doing just felt awesome so there wasn't even a moments confusion or disagreement, his hand just clutched tighter as he arched up against his boyfriend, trying to hold back another groan.
He kept going, kissing across Vic's body to his sternum, and then slowly making his way down the center of his chest. "You gotta good heart, too."
"God, if I could still blush..." Was chuckled a little embarrassedly, the good kind of embarrassed though.
Vance licked him with the flat of his tongue. "Pretty sure you still can."
"Can't see it though, doesn't count." Victor laughed, squirming just a little.
"Does so." Vance kissed him in that spot again. "Totally counts."
"But how will you even know?" He was still laughing a little as he practically melted back into the pillows and whatever other soft comfy things covered the floor.
Vance smiled. "I'll know."
"Whatever." Brown eyes rolled but playfully.
His boyfriend came up back up to his mouth, and kissed him again. Vance gave him lots of kisses -- slow ones, and quick ones, and deep ones, and playful ones, and happy ones -- every version he could ever think of.
When they eventually parted and Victor's head hit the cushions again, he was panting a little and his lips felt swollen as he grinned.
"Ok, ok, you're entitled to your opinion." He laughed. " Happy now?"
"Ecstatic."
"M lucky." Victor sighed softly, wrapping his arms around Vance's neck again, keeping him close.
"So'm I." Luckier, even, because Vic was awesome.
Again Victor found himself biting back disagreement (who was lucky to be dating a reptile?). He tried his best to accept his new body, he really did, but that didn't mean he didn't wish he looked like how he used to. Even if there was a few awesome benefits to it at times.
So instead he pecked a soft kiss to Vance's lips though it was after a noticeable pause. "I guess we're both lucky."
Vance nodded. "The luckiest."
"But we're terrible study buddies!"
He couldn't help laughing. "That," Vance agreed, "is definitely true. I think it's easier for me to forget everything I know in here than it is for me to learn all that biology stuff."
"Meh. Making out, teenage hormones, I'm pretty sure there's a biology joke in there if my brain wasn't so occupied with wonder why you still have your shirt on." Victor snickered back, tugging at the material along with his unsubtle hint.
Vance hunched over a little so that Vic could tug the distracting piece of clothing off, and then grinned. "Better?"
"Always better." The green boy grinned back.
When Vance blushed, it was way easier to tell. His neck grew hot, and it spread up into his cheeks. "Well....good."
"You know, I don't get it." Victor told him, fingertips running over the muscles of his boyfriend's abs "You work so hard on your body to get it looking so great then you go all shy and stuff like it's news to you that you look hot."
The muscles beneath Vic's fingers twitched a little, reacting to the sensation. "I don't do it to look good, really, just...wanna be in good shape." To be strong, and grown-up, and able to do anything.
Vance smiled. "I really am glad you like it, though."
"I do. It kinda makes me feel like I should do something too...but then I remember that I hate the gym." Victor flashed a grin though he was actually admitting something he genuinely worried about. He was ok fitness wise since they had PE, combat and squad training but he didn't have a six pack going on like Vance.
"No no no. Don't do anything like that for that. I like you like this." Vance traced a hand up Victor's stomach, too. "I really, really do."
The strength of Vance's response surprised Victor and the warmth of the touch had him relaxing with a sigh, he couldn't help it. It felt < i>good. The worries melted away for the time being.
"Ok, ok, don't worry. Like I said, I hate the gym anyway. Too boring."
"It's not boring," Vance protested. "It's fun!"
"It's just doing the same thing over and over like running or rowing. Well, maybe it'd be fun if you were there. Shirtless and sweaty but, see, that can happen here but with way more fun." Especially when Pietro was off visiting family.
The other teen laughed, even as he couldn't keep from blushing bright red at the innuendo.
"Yup, no mistaking when you blush." Victor nodded, hands running up his boyfriend's thighs where he was still being straddled.
"Which is exactly why you make me do it."
"It's just so easy. Plus you're totally cute."
Which of course only made Vance's blush more pronounced. Because life was a little unfair that way. "Jerk," he teased without heat. "Makin' it worse."
Green shoulders shrugged "Eh, you love me really. And you're still cute when you blush. Totally."
Vance wrapped his arms around the smaller boy and cuddled up against him. "It's still mean."
Victor's hands ran lightly over his warm, bare back. "Saying nice, complimentary stuff is mean? Did I fall into backwards land?"
"Saying stuff to make your boyfriend turn into a tomato is mean," he corrected.
"I said it coz I think it, the blush is just an added bonus really."
Vance stuck his tongue out at him.
Without moving from his lying down position, Victor's tongue darted out and flicked against Vance's then shot back. "Two can play at that one."
The older boy laughed with surprise and joy. "Cheater. But I'll forgive you, 'cause it's so freaking cool."
"Yeah, like you wouldn't have forgiven me anyway!"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Vance burrowed in more thoroughly against the green boy, and relaxed over him like a warm, human blanket. "Cheeky, cheeky."
Victor sighed softly, he couldn't deny that the heat felt good. "Only coz you lead me astray." He snickered
"Nuh uuuuuuh," came the protest. "I'm a nice boy."
"Says he who has me straddled and pinned!"
Vance smiled. "What? You don't think that's nice?"
"I think it's lots of things." Victor smirked back "But 'nice' doesn't really come into it."
"Tell me."
"Tell you what?" Was asked back innocently.
Vance nuzzled into Victor's neck, and tightened his body hold on the boy. "Tell me what all the things you think it is are."
The younger boy groaned softly. "It's hot, really hot."
"Yeah?" Vance kissed Vic's neck gently. "Good."
"It's...." He trailed off for a moment before picking up the thread again. "Uh, it's real..."
"Real what?" Vance didn't stop, letting himself lazily tease different spots on Vic's neck. "What else?"
"I have no idea what I'm saying." Victor admitted with a small chuckle, eyes closed as he arched up against Vance and rolled his hips a little.
His boyfriend grinned, proud of himself.
"Stop smirking and do something or you're the meanie!" It was supposed to be a demand but it came out more like a pathetic whine from Vic.
Vance sat up and surveyed his kinda-sorta-semi captive. "Like what?"
After taking a (sort of) calming breath, Victor looked back up at him and asked "Whatever you want." It wasn't a blasé statement, he knew Vance and trusted him. Vance wouldn't take advantage of him saying something like that which was why he could say it.
Warm fingers traced over and around Victor's chest and stomach. Feeling, exploring, and liking the way that the other boy moved underneath him. Vance leaned down and kissed Victor, slow and sweet. He wanted Vic to know how much he liked him. That's what he wanted.
Kissing him back eagerly, green scaled hands started running over Vance's bare back again. Tracing his spine and following the muscles that were now so familiar.
"We need to make forts more often," Vance murmured.
"Room-mates need to be out of town more often." The second he said it, he remembered the painfully awkward situation with Alex and cringed. Worst moment possible to remind Vance of that incident.
But Vance wasn't thinking of that, and so rather than cringing in response, he just laughed. "Maybe that, too. Think we can talk Pietro into it?"
Relieved that Vane's mind hadn't gone where his had, Victor shrugged "Probably won't need to, him and Remy seem to be an actual thing now." Lucky bastard.
"Huh. Didn't know that," Vance admitted. He cocked his head curiously. "But doesn't Remy have a roommate, too?"
"Somehow they've afforded hotel rooms and stuff before." Which considering neither of them had jobs, Victor choose not to think about to much. Don't ask, don't tell. "Plus they're not sneaking around, if they want privacy they'll just ask for it."
Getting hotel rooms? Wasn't that awfully...grown-up?
He didn't want to ask if the comment about not sneaking around had been directed at him. "Oh."
"I...I didn't mean that how it sounded."
"Don't know what you're talking about," Vance lied, smiling comfortingly.
Victor didn't much like Vance playing dumb like that but he liked the conversation about their closet status even less so he let it slide without comment.
"So yeah, probably won't be seeing much of him even when he does come back from his mom's so you're welcome around whenever. Not that you aren't welcome now. Just, you know, more welcome." He just seemed to be on a roll with this foot in mouth stuff...
"Don't worry," Vance assured him. "I always feel welcome."
Even if Pietro'd been being weird and stuff.
"Good coz I want you to be." Victor told him firmly. "We need more 'us' time." Translation: more non fighting time, everything was 'us' time since they couldn't go out in public together after all.
The other boy nodded. Yeah. They needed more not-fighting time. "'Kay."
"And...and I promise to keep away from vodka." Because they hadn't talked about it and he really felt like he should make some kind of apology.
Vance blushed at the very memory. The places Victor's hand had gone, and the place they'd been sitting...he'd had no idea what to do. "P-probably for the best."
"I'm sorry, just want you to know that." Victor carried on, voice quiet but sincere.
"'S okay," Vance murmured, shrugging and trying to put the memory out of mind.
"No, it's not ok." The younger boy corrected firmly. "And I promise it won't happened again."
He promised, and Vance felt a tiny knot in his stomach come undone and go away. "I know you won't. But thanks."
"It needed to be said." Victor told him, now that the seriousness was out of the way is hands were running over Vance's chest again.
Vance felt his skin breaking into goosebumps, prickling and tingling at Vic's touch.
"You know I, I really care about you." Being careful again about using the 'l' word again, he didn't want to come on too strong or freak him out.
He swallowed and blushed before smiling happily. Vance didn't know what love felt like for sure, he was afraid of using the word. But this sentiment? This one, he could definitely reciprocate. "I really care about you, too."
Well, hearing that back was a relief. He couldn't help grinning at that.
Vance leaned down and kissed him.
The green boy responded happily, arms wrapping around Vance's neck again.
He smiled against Vic's lips. Yup. They should do this every weekend.
They had made a fort again. Because they were fourteen and fifteen and when things got tough they pretty much hid away from the things. At least relationshipwise.
