Kevin and Jean-Paul have a small chat while Josh sleeps.
Kevin was not in a good mood. He'd spent a good part of Sunday just watching Josh sleep and barely talking to any visitors that came by. Though he'd managed to have a somewhat okay conversation with Nori, it hadn't exactly helped. He was worried, he was scared, and telling Moira to do something kept getting him in trouble from her. What else were you supposed to feel like when a fucking healer was knocked out cold, though? Because now he was just sulking about it. A lot of things were running through his head, like how he was unsure if Josh should keep touching him. What if this could happen to him again? What if? Kevin wasn't worth it, and he was going to tell Josh that when he woke up! Though, he was also pretty sure if this happened ever again for any reason, he was going to kill that asshole-jackass-jerk.
This whole thing sucked. Why did Laura and River have to get kidnapped by a bunch of assholes in the first place, anyways? Kevin wished he'd been there so he could have withered those fucking dicks all into dust for fucking with those girls, plus with everyone else. And with that thought, he'd successfully scared himself, so he didn't want to be alone with his thoughts and terrifying powers anymore. Kevin then glanced over to see Jean-Paul awake and actually alone. Well, he supposed he could ask the guy how he was doing now considering he'd been stabbed and all.
"So," he began. "Moira's pain medicine helping you much?"
Some distant part of Jean-Paul's mind noted that most people in his condition would have been annoyed by the constant stream of visitors. He was somewhat puzzled, but mostly grateful -- they were keeping him awake.
"In theory. I am not feeling much pain at any rate."
Kevin nodded, and leaned forward in his chair, frowning as he did so. "Did he, um, get a chance to heal you at all before he passed out?"
"Enough to keep me from bleeding to death or dying from shock. I'm still chopped steak under these bandages." Jean-Paul closed his eyes and took a few seconds to open them again. "How's Josh?"
"He's okay, I think. Moira says he should wake up soon--we just have to wait," Kevin said, folding his arms in his lap. "I'm sure when he does wake up, he'll want to heal you and everyone else within seconds."
"It is what he does...there are worse hobbies..." The words were coming slowly, as if Jean-Paul had to search for each one. "And you? Holding up OK?"
No, he wasn't. Kevin was terrified right now, but he didn't want to admit it, and he didn't want to admit how freaked he was about Josh. And he certainly wasn't going to admit that to one of Josh's closest friends! Fuck that.
"I'm fine. Just tired," he spoke, and took notice of the way Jean-Paul was talking. Must have been the drugs, or the injury--or perhaps it was a combination of both. "Probably better than Jeanne-Marie. I noticed she's practically been guarding you."
Much like Kevin had been doing to Josh, but he wanted to pretend otherwise.
"Jeanne-Marie, Lydia, Scott...I am so well protected that it defies belief. I almost want someone to try something."
"I don't think anyone would even get the chance to try something with them," Kevin reasoned. "They'd just get a death look from one of those three, turn around and shit their pants as they ran away."
"If they had the good sense to be scared." Jean-Paul half-smiled. "Thanks for watching out for Josh. He needs it."
"Well someone has to," Kevin decided. "Someone has to make sure he doesn't jump into action the second he wakes up, right? Like he needs to go pass the fuck out again."
"Not just today..." Jean-Paul half-smiled. "Just...you know."
Kevin almost squirmed in his seat at that. He hated when people noticed how much he cared about Josh, and how much he tried to look out for him. Though he wasn't sure why it even bothered him, it still did sometimes. He liked to try and argue it sometimes, or shrug it off, but he couldn't exactly deny it when he was obviously fucking devoted to the guy. And it was even harder to argue with Jean-Paul, someone who was close to people who knew Kevin very well.
"He does need it," he ended up saying, words slow and soft. "It's good you guys are friends--I'm sure you watched out for him during the rescue, when you could."
"Oui. You would break my face if I did not, right?" The drugs were making it hard to hold on to seriousness; benefits of a fresh dose.
"You got that right," Kevin spoke, and managed a tiny smile at that. He still wished he had been able to go, but on some level, he knew it wouldn't do anything. He couldn't have prevented this.
He paused, and looked down at his hands. "Do you need me to get anything for you? 'Cause I can."
Kevin didn't want to leave Josh all that much, but the offer still came.
"I have my handmaidens, but thanks for the thought." Jean-Paul's eyes closed again. "Just make sure Josh doesn't wake up by himself."
"He won't," Kevin assured, and turned his attention back to his boyfriend. As much as he didn't want Josh to know he sat here the whole time, there was still no avoiding that he'd be here when the guy woke up. "I promise."
