Pietro and Lorna, Backdated to Friday
Pietro and Lorna share a drink at the cast party, and as usual, Pietro is a bad influence on his little sister.
After he left Victor and Vance to go and be adorable together (hopefully all night--fingers crossed!), Pietro went to seek out the little sister. He was loving Lorna in rehearsals--not that he'd thought she'd drop the ball, because it hadn't been all nepotism that had convinced him to give her the only really good female role in the show, but it was still cool to see. So he'd bought her a little present for cast party good times.
He grabbed it, a tiny bottle of Absente and a little absinthe spoon inside an appropriately shaped glass, which was stuffed with a baggie of sugar cubes. The whole thing was wrapped up in a towel to keep it from getting smashed in his bag, so he just tucked the whole thing under his arm and grabbed a bottle of water. Then he marched up to Lorna and tapping her on the shoulder. "So, I have your 'break a leg' drink. I think you're gonna like it."
Well, she said she wanted something green. This was way cooler than creme de menthe (though he had some of that in his bag too, just in case).
"Oh, yeah?" Lorna grinned and whirled around to face her brother. She had been having so much fun with this play, and she'd been so determined to do a good job with it. Her and Victor had rehearsed like crazy, and she knew their efforts just had to be worth it! She knew she would make Pietro proud of her, and that he wouldn't regret picking her to play her part. "Would that be my green beverage?"
She couldn't help asking for one! She had green hair, and Victor was green as a whole, so why not have some fun with it (in a way that wasn't 'it's not easy being green)?
"Best believe," Pietro practically chirped, nodding her over to a nearby drinks table and setting out the goods. Glass, spoon, sugar cubes on the table, towel over his shoulder, Absente in Lorna's hand so she could examine it. "We are gonna prepare some good old fashioned absinthe, the drink of poets and artists and other self-destructive free-thinkers forever."
"Oh, that is so cool," Lorna commented, and looked over the bottle in her hands. She'd never had this before, but she had always wanted to try it for some very obvious reasons. Her hair was her pride, and because of that, she absolutely adored the colour of it. Lorna always loved trying out new things, too, so she was rather interested to see what this tasted like. It wasn't a drink her mother ever had around the house, that was for sure. "So, how do we do this?"
Pietro had effectively taught himself how to do it earlier in the day. He'd grabbed a handful of the smallish bottles (he didn't want his little sister all fucked up on absinthe--just moderately fucked up on absinthe!), and there was a half-empty one somewhere in his bag as a result of the experiment. But he'd seen it in movies (Total Eclipse--yes, his Rimbaud thing) and read about it, and it was actually more entertaining than complicated, as it turned out.
"Pour enough of the absinthe into the cup to fill the bubble at the bottom." He indicated with one finger. "Then we set the spoon" --he held it up-- "on top with a sugar cube on it" --he dug one of those out, too, and held it in the other hand. "And we pour the water through that. Makes it go all cloudy and taste awesome."
"Alright," Lorna grinned, and went to work at pouring a glass, doing what Pietro instructed. She liked when Pietro got her alcohol because it made her feel so grown up and smart when she drank it. It made her feel like she had his approval, too, which was something she really craved from both siblings, and their father on top of that. "Have you had this stuff before?"
"Not before today. Always wanted to try it, though." Pietro set the flat spoon on top of the glass, then the sugar on that, and handed Lorna the cold water bottle. "Had some earlier and it's pretty good--but it fucks you up hard, so just sip it, okay?
"Now just pour some water real slow through the cube, and we're there."
"Okay," she nodded, and began to pour the water. She always took everything Pietro said to heart, so she was pretty good at listening to him (when she wanted to). It seemed like he knew everything sometimes, and Lorna really wanted to know everything, too! Well. Lorna decided that Wanda knew more about stuff than their brother did, but still.
When Lorna finished, she looked up at Pietro again. "How's that?"
Pietro nodded in approval, watching the once-clear liquid become almost milky-looking. "Sec," he said, then disappeared for a split second. When he reappeared, barely a blink later, it was with a handful of ice from the cooler in the boathouse. He plucked up the sugary spoon and dropped the ice in. "There. See what you think--can always add more water if it's too strong."
"Sure thing," Lorna nodded, and took hold of the drink to take a sip. It made her blink, and she felt like she could almost choke on it. Wow, this stuff was stronger than anything else she'd had before, but she didn't want to ask for more water to help soothe the taste. She was fifteen years old, and she could handle it long as she drank it in small quantities. "Wow, this is so strong."
She took another sip, then held her glass out to him. "Have some with me!"
Pietro accepted the glass and took a tiny sip; the liquorice flavor puckered his lips, but he liked it. Better than that shitty sambucca Curtis had got from Nita. Man, that girl... And whooooaaaaaa there went the alcohol rocketing through him, just like that.
"Maaaaan, that is wild." He handed it back with a grin. And then glanced around for Wanda--who was totally gonna side-eye him for this, and he knew it but... absinthe! "Just a sip, though. I'm trying to be responsible, since there are babies running around here. I just sent Vic and Vance off somewhere together; hopefully they're not tanked in a tree somewhere and about to fall out."
"It's really, really hard to imagine Vance drinking," Lorna admitted, sounding rather amused at the idea as she took the drink back. Vance was just so innocent, and every time she talked to him, she had this overwhelming need to corrupt him. She couldn't even explain it. "Is that you being responsible? Because that's a cool kind of responsible."
"I had no idea there was such a thing," he said with a laugh. He glanced around, but didn't see the pair of them anywhere. "I don't know if they're into the liquor or not, honestly; I didn't give it to 'em but god knows there's enough around. You're right about Vance--but I did get Vic drunk once before. That's when we came up with the idea for the play."
"Vance is so innocent," Lorna continued with a little laugh before taking another tiny sip of her drink. "Victor seems like he'd do whatever you told him to if you tried hard enough, but Vance? He's just so wholesome. If you actually got him to drink, I'll be impressed forever."
Pietro snorted. "I'm not so much with the convincing. More with the 'If you want it, I'll make sure you can get it. And that you don't die from it.'
"Of course, that's assuming Vance's wholesomeness wouldn't self-destruct him the moment he took his first sip of liquor. Maybe it's for the best, poor sap."
Lorna's eyes literally flashed right then, as a smirk formed upon her face. Really, the idea of making the ever so innocent and wholesome Vance do something like drinking was so appealing to her. Lorna just liked to break the rules sometimes, okay? It made her happy, especially since her father was a headmaster. She felt like it was almost a duty, or something.
"I hope it doesn't fully taint him," Lorna told Pietro seriously. "I want to show him to the dark side, too!"
Pietro winced, more for comedic effect than anything else. He sipped at the water that was left and chuckled, then. "Did I ever tell you about the time Vance announced to me and Vic that he was gonna go watch movies with you in the rec room and probably crash there? Valentine's day?
"Victor looked at me like he expected me to take Vance's head off. But I swear to god, Lorna--and this is really something, because I am intensely crazy protective if you haven't noticed: I'd be more worried about him than you." He smirked and cocked an eyebrow. Maybe just a little bit proud.
Sure, he'd rip off anyone's head who looked at her the wrong way. But this was funny, come on.
"Oh, I remember that," Lorna said, laughing. Pietro was so ridiculous, and it was just getting more obvious the longer they knew each other. However, he did have a point there, because between the two of them, Vance was definitely the one on the more innocent side. "And you know, that doesn't surprise me. Vance is so sweet--I don't think he has a corrupted bone in his body, to be honest."
"Right?" Pietro glanced around again--but he wasn't nervous yet. Even if they were drinking, they couldn't have had time to get dangerously fucked up and drowned or fallen out of a tree or anything, yet.
Probably.
"He's a lot smarter than he acts, and I don't know why, honestly. But he's definitely a sweetheart. A sweeter heart than Vic, even. You and me, on the other hand..." He pointed between them. Because. Yeah.
Some stuff was apparently genetic.
"You and me might as well have grown up in the same house," Lorna mused, smirking a bit. "We must get it from Erik."
Pietro put an arm around her shoulders and squeezed--careful not to upset the absinthe. "I'll take it. Better than getting that little frowny face he makes when he's concentrating, you know? That shit will cause some serious wrinkles."
"Gross," Lorna rolled her eyes. Like either of them wanted to be old and grumpy. Sure, adults had more fun than they did, but Lorna didn't want to be that old just yet. "Hopefully none of us will get that face---even when we are as old as he is!"
"Please, god." The funniest part was that Wanda kind of made a face that got closet o it--sometimes her mannerisms were so Erik it was hilarious. But she made it look pretty where Erik just... yyyyeah. No.
Pietro squeezed Lorna and kissed her hair before letting her go again. Then he held out his water bottle for a toast. "Break a leg, Sunday, little sister. Not that you need it, cuz you're gonna kill."
"I'll remember you said that," Lorna beamed, and held her up her glass for their toast. "Cheers!"
