Betsy and Wanda, March 13th
Betsy and Wanda bond.
Betsy was propped up on one of the stools in the the kitchen at the counter, sipping down a smoothie after a long workout. She glanced up as she noticed someone come in, giving a little wave when she saw who it was.
"Hey, Wanda. How is going?"
"Betsy," Wanda nodded back and gave her a flicker of a smile, face still flushed from the weather outside. She made her way straight for the stove and the hot chocolate mix tucked into a cabinet, skirting her way around the other girl comfortably. "Do you want any?" She asked as she took the mix down.
"No thanks," she said with a small smile. "I'm still cooling down from a run."
Wanda nodded agreeably and moved past her to get the milk out of the fridge. "Were you running outside?" She asked, a bit curiously.
"In the gym. I was in there for some other training, so did a few laps after. Weather will be decent enough soon, though."
"I know," Wanda said with a slightly brighter smile. "I'm looking forward to it. It will be nice to spend more time out of doors."
"I'm glad the grounds are so large and secluded," Betsy admitted. "No one to worry about, and plenty of space for everyone."
"No one to worry about?" Wanda echoed and paused what she was doing to give Betsy a curious look. "You mean someone seeing?"
"Yes," Betsy confirmed.
"Can I ask what you do?"
"Of course," Betsy said, at ease with Wanda in part because she was already so at ease with her brother. "I'm a telepath. I can also project psionic energy. Sometimes I travel outside of my body with my mind, which generally means sitting around not quite tethered, which could be odd to walk up on."
"I can imagine," Wanda said with a slightly startled blink. Once the milk was simmering in a saucepan, she turned towards Betsy and leaned back against the counter. "Have you had a problem with hiding it all?"
"Not yet," Betsy admitted. "Not with being found out at least. I've always been extremely private with the use of my powers, and fortunately the psionic energy is a new thing. Telepathy by itself is easy to hide if you keep your mouth shut. Just not easy to get away from."
Wanda's mouth twisted into an understanding grimace. "Can you not block anyone out?"
"I can dull the voices now, blur what I'm hearing so that I can ignore it. When I was younger I couldn't tune people out. It was overwhelming. Sometimes I would just focus on Brian, until he was the only thing clear and everyone else was just background noise."
"I'm sorry. That must be incredibly difficult."
"You get used to it eventually," Betsy said with a wry smile. "Do you feel like you've gotten used to your powers more?"
"Sometimes I'm not sure," Wanda admitted with a wry twist to her mouth. I know what I'm doing a little more with it now, but I wouldn't say I've got perfect control."
"It's rough," Betsy said thoughtfully. "I'm glad you were able to come at least. I didn't think I'd find a good reason for Brian to come here, but he wasn't a mutant until recently. Pietro and I spent a great deal of time commiserating when I first got here."
"Lucky for all of us," Wanda huffed a laugh. "I'm glad too, for both of our sakes."
"I am a bit surprised he let's you walk around freely," Betsy said with a grin. "I fully expected him to latch on at the ankle."
One side of her mouth quirked up into a smirk of sorts. "He knows better. And he can just blow by and check on me every three seconds if he feels like it. Which he also knows not to do."
"Amazing restraint on his part. He's as protective as Brian." Betsy considered. "Although I guess he takes direction better than Bri."
"Sometimes," Wanda agreed with a short laugh. "Not always. If he feels like it, he'll do the most annoying thing possible just to be contrary. I'd guess you know how that feels."
"Contrary. Stubborn. No, I have no idea," Betsy said with her own smirk. "It's good having someone that knows you so well, that's fiercely protective, but I wish I could smack the stubbornness out of him sometimes. Even if I'm just as bad."
It earned a stronger laugh from Wanda. "Maybe it's a twin thing," she said, her tone faintly teasing. "Competitive stubbornness."
"We'll have to ask Jeanne-Marie and get a final weigh in."
"It might be worth doing a complete survey," Wanda grinned. "Just for the sake of completion."
"I have a suspicion we're going to be right on this one."
"Still," she said with a slight laugh, "it can be like a support group. Twin Sisters Anonymous."
"Best plan ever."
Wanda smiled a little, but she'd absolutely latched on to the idea. Maybe Betsy was just being polite, but Wanda was going to push it as far as she could. "Lunch sometime maybe? Just the three of us."
Betsy smiled genuinely. "I'd really like that. I will mention, my brother has a huge crush on Jeanne-Marie so I can't speak of all his foolishness in her presence."
"Oh god," Wanda said with a startled laugh. "Really? Well, I'm sure we can manage around it." If they could navigate the fact that Wanda and Jeanne-Marie's brothers hated each other, they could probably manage anything.
"She managed to coax words from him, a feat usually impossible in front of pretty girls."
"I suppose we'll certainly have things to talk about then."

Pietro just eyes you all warily. And does not check on you every three seconds. Really. Honest. Mostly.
