Eames comes to Tony with a rather odd engineering requests and lingers to invade his personal space for a bit.
After a week in the new flat at Tony's Fabulous Commune (one of the many monikers Eames was mentally dubbing this as) Eames had already managed to decorate most of his new home. It was much more subtle than most people would expect from him, but Eames did prefer comfort over most things. He'd work on creating or acquiring more outrageous art for the living room at some point if he needed to keep up appearances.
There was still one piece of business he did want to square away, when it came to outlandish expectations.
Since JARVIS let him up the elevator Eames assumed Tony wasn't too busy for guests and he strolled into the room, looking around until he spotted Tony. "Hello, darling. Are you up for company and engineering questions?"
"Uh," Tony blinked up at him from where he was curled into a corner of the couch with a tablet, mostly ignoring whatever was currently playing on the oversized flatscreen across from him. It seemed to involve a lot of explosions. "Sure? What do you need?"
Eames headed over to the couch to sit next to him, shifting without warning to his female form so that she could scoot closer and snuggle by Tony without completely invading his space. "Very serious question. Can you think of the best way I might go about setting up a second bed on the ceiling of my bedroom? It would have to be sturdily affixed, and I know I won't be able to keep blankets up there but there must be a way to secure a mattress and other linens in position."
He shifted a little to let her lean more comfortably against his side without thinking, only to stare down at her once she was finished. "On the ceiling? Why?" Tony squinted a little. "Is this one of those weird decoration things?"
Eames smiled sweetly. "Do you know what Arthur's powers are?"
"Is it something to do with looking unimpressed?" Tony hazarded it as a guess, though from the faint smirk he was wearing it wasn't a very serious one.
"Yes, how did you guess?" Eames laughed. "It has something to do with reasons I would like a spare mattress on the ceiling, and reasons you should always knock before coming over if he's visiting."
"I always knock anyway." Though Tony made a mental note to have JARVIS supply reminders. Whatever the hell was going on there, he was really sure he didn't want to know. "So you want to put an actual bed on the ceiling. Or just the mattress?"
"I'd like it to be visually pleasing, as well as practical, so more than a mattress would be good."
"Okaaaay," Tony said slowly, but he was already getting the slightly faraway expression that meant he was working things out in his head. "What kind of bed are we talking here? Four poster? Gothic monstrosity? Carved wooden headboard?"
"We can forgo elaborate bedposts. For my own safety, I'll probably have it mirror the bed below it. Currently, simple platform, latticed headboard." Eames pulled out his phone and opened up a picture of the current decor and showed it to Tony.
Tony's eyebrows lifted a little as he took the phone to get a better look. "So really, what you're asking me is can I get it up there without it killing anyone and still have the bedding in place."
"Precisely. I need your genius so I don't get crushed to death."
"I do enjoy being useful," he said with a snort. "Any other directives I should know about?"
"That's mostly it." Eames leaned to peck him on the cheek. "When you're old enough I may have some other ideas. Certain machines, which, well, you can use your imagination."
Tony made a derisive sound, but the physical contact barely even phased him anymore. "You can make your own sex toys, shady."
"But it would be more entertaining with a Stark logo on it," Eames joked.
"Now there's a line of development the board would love." Tony rolled his eyes and knocked his shoulder against Eames'. "Somehow I think anything I could come up with would pale in comparison to what you've got in mind anyway."
"Look, just because I'm a shapeshifter doesn't mean I hold all the stocks in the kinky sex ideas market." She snickered.
"No, just because you're you, you do," Tony said with a huff. "And also I really don't want to know what you get up to with your robot, so don't start giving details."
She reached to tousle Tony's hair lightly. "No worries. I won't scandalize you with any real details. That reminds me though. The landscaping seems to be coming along really well, Buttercup."
Tony made a face at her but didn't move away. Though the expression promptly shifted into something a lot more smug. "Right? All down to my brilliant hiring practices, of course."
"You have excellent taste," Eames agreed. "If I had to rate your choices on a scale from 1 to 5, I'd say this one leaves them all behind."
"I think you're the first person ever to tell me I make good life choices." Tony affected a deeply thoughtful look. "I'm not sure if that should worry me."
"I always show impeccable judgement," Eames said earnestly.
"Says the man-person-other currently asking me to put a bed on their ceiling."
"For very important reasons," Eames assured.
"Are they reasons that will result in your cyborg buddy giving me more of the evil eye than he already does?" Though despite the line of questioning, he didn't actually sound all that curious. Whether or not he was going to do the thing was already decided, after all.
"I think you'll be safe. And that's just his face," Eames said with a snicker.
"One that you're happy to cuddle with. Remind me about that impeccable judgement again?"
"I like a challenge." She nudged Tony. "Easy is boring."
"That explains so much about you," Tony said with a snort, and impulsively threw an arm over her shoulders.
Eames smiled warmly and snuggled against him. "I'm going to take that as a compliment, Boy-Genius."
