Illyana, Cal, and Angie | Backdated to 12/17/15

Illyana's debut with the Salem High dance team leads into what was probably the most awkward double date of all time.

It had felt like ages until the band finished playing, the principal had stopped rambling about how she hoped everyone had a great holiday (honestly, what was it about principals that caused them to ramble that much?) and the lights had come back on. Illyana'd bounced to her feet, offered a smile to her nearest teammates, and jerked her head towards the back of the auditorium. "Gotta go."

Michaela nodded acknowledgement and smiled back, which was pretty much the best Illyana'd expected (a few of the girls were still put out that they'd opened the team to "people from that weird mutant school"). She wasn't worried about it, though. The rest were nice enough, and...well, dance team. She put up with way more than a few snide comments.

She squirmed her way through the crowd, glad that she'd taken note of where Cal was sitting earlier when she was on stage, and more or less launched herself at him, throwing her arms around his neck for a quick hug. "Did you see us? Were we awful? We were still working out the kinks in the kick line last night - could you tell?" She dropped her arms after a moment, and forced a smile for Cal's guest. "Oh, hi Angie. Glad you could make it."

It even sounded sincere. She was pretty smug about that, all things considered.

Cal laughed and managed to catch Illyana in time, giving her a hug. It was only through Illyana's knowledge that he had any clue what a kick line was, but hey, there he went. "No, it was perfect. You guys looked awesome. Right?" he asked Angie, giving her a smile.

Angie hadn't been entirely certain about coming to the whole thing, honestly. Mostly because she'd always had this feeling that Illyana just didn't like her.

And, yep. Forced smile at 2 o'clock. Angie returned it, though hers was actually real. No problems with Illyana herself, after all. "You guys looked great out there. It's only because of the note you put out that I knew you guys hadn't really been working together that long. The work you guys did really showed."

"I swear I've spent more time here this week than I have in class," Illyana admitted to Angie. Who was throwing around compliments, at least, which almost made up for Cal having insisted on bringing her along. She glanced over and wrinkled her nose at him. "And yes, I have been going to class. I've just been here more." And at work, at least a little. And JVX...yeah. She'd get back to that eventually. Maybe once she had time to breathe again. But she had to admit, it felt good.

Cal chuckled when she added that before he could make a comment. "Well, good on you. All of you, actually." He wasn't surprised at what she could achieve when she gave something her all, not in the least. "I'm glad it worked out for you." He knew how much she'd wanted to get something like this set up at Xavier's.

"I can imagine. I mean, a lot of practice running up to the show, right? My drama friends always said that productions ate their lives in the run up to a show." Angie wasn't much of a performer herself, but she'd been around plenty of them.

"Ugh. That and the fact we had like, three weeks to throw this together, because the school wanted to squash the rumors that the dance team had no chance at Regionals, and..." Illyana made a face and tilted her head back, causing the bells on her pony tail to jingle. She straightened it back up a moment later, though, and grinned at Cal. Because yeah, he'd get it. "It's awesome."

Cal laughed at that, and at the grin on her face. "Yeah, I know the feeling. Nothing like having your back to the wall." And little to no time to work up to giving something your best.

Angie was doing her best to stand a little away and let Illyana and Cal have some time. Still, she grinned. "It looks like it's awesome. Best part is that you're doing what you enjoy, which is always the best"

"Love it. And yeah, there's like, less than two months until Regionals. There's no way we're ready. And it's basketball season, which means a new routine every other week, and I'm probably going to drop dead of exhaustion, and it's the Best." She bounced a little, at least partially just to make her bells jingle, debated for a moment, then surrendered to the inevitable. Angie obviously wasn't going anywhere, so she might as well ask her too. "I've gotta get my coat from the locker room, but...did you guys want to go get pizza? Or did you have plans?"

Cal instinctively looked over at Angie, grinning. "Yeah, no, nothing. Pizza sounds good."

Angie smiled back and nodded. "Nah, no plans beyond coming out and watching you guys. Wanted to keep the itinerary open."

And sure, Illyana might not like her, but surely they could both be around each other for Cal's sake for that long.

"Cool. Gimme a sec, then - I'll be right back." Illyana grinned and then rushed off in the direction of the locker room, debating whether or not she should call and see whether or not Nico was off work yet. On the one hand, all pretenses aside, she got the impression Cal really didn't like Nico, and she was pretty sure the opposite held true as well. On the other...

Well, Cal had brought a date. There was no good reason she shouldn't as well.
